So before this season, perceived 8-10 wins with Jones was "accepting mediocrity" but 8-11 with Mullen is all we dare ask for?

Not following the logic.

I would have been cool with Jones having us in that range every year. That'd mean we're competing for championships pretty much every year. After last year I didn't think Jones could do that. I think Mullen can.

Big splash and statement is overrated. Harbaugh was the biggest splash hire the last 5 years and it’s got them no where. Charlie Strong was a splash at Texas look at that.

Nick Saban was a big splash
Pete Carroll was a big splash
Urban Meyer was a big splash

Charlie Strong was NOT a big splash. Most of our fans didn’t even want him

Harbaugh is 10-3, 10-3 and 8-3 so far this year after only returning 5 starters (1 [ONE] on defense). Returned the fewest starters in FBS. I’d say he is doing ok

The win today is not that impressive to me personally. It's his body of work that's impressive. My only question will Mullen would be can he recruit at the level of UGA and Bama. He'll be able to land top 15 classes easily. We need top ten classes on an annual basis to hang with those programs consistently.

I agree his body of work is impressive considering where he is. But I just don’t think he’s the guy to win championships at Tennessee with UGA rolling and UF likely making a big hire (and of course TSIO).

Would he do better than Butch Jones and Derek Dooley? Absolutely. Would he be able to recruit top 10 every year and win the SEC every few years? I doubt it.

Yes, I think Mullen would be an upgrade. But I also think we can and should do better.

Pete Carroll was like the 6th or 7th option for USC.

I'm understanding of keeping a coach with that record.
In a wide open, let's get our guy search, I'm wanting to stop accepting Bama as our kings. 8-11 doesn't accomplish this.

Nah. You can look at the last 4 years and compare.

I was actually born in Dallas and considered going to SMU. However, the last few years in football have not been comparable.

They are very comparable THIS year. That’s where Morris has them now. 4 years ago doesn’t have anything to do with where they are right now. If Morris and Norvell both stay they will likely be very comparable next year as well.

cmon man. A win is a win. But getting all excited about beating a 4-6 arkansas team with a dead man walking coach? That’s really impressive to you?

And let’s be honest you’ve flip flopped more in this coaching search than jayson swain.

Exactly, OK. Just OK. And still no championships other than the Pioneer League. Ever.

Yeah, you’re probably right and he wasn’t a splash at the time. Revisionist history on my part. Since he would be a splash today I guess I forgot how he was just another mediocre NFL coach at that time.
