For a guy who was so high on Butch Jones I'm kind of surprised that you wouldn't also be high on Mullen.

I like Mullen but he’s not a big splash home run statement hire. UT is in need of that. Mullen would have been a good choice 5 or 8 years ago instead of the last two coaches.

Gruden.

You are from a beautiful country! Enjoyed my time in South Africa. Was busy with work but liked what I could see. Definitely a place I’d like to go back and visit. Sounds dicey politically though (but I guess everywhere is these days).

You are correct. A beautiful country and wonderful people.

But government and politics are ruining it.

If you go back for personal travel go to Cape Town and enjoy.

Can't even pause for thought on the joy some have taken from Mullen's nail-biting game against a 4-6 team.

Still stuck on the Norvell at Memphis is on par with winning a Superbowl while playing your former team, argument.
VN is doing the marajuanas again.

Wouldn't have the shock and awe factor like Gruden but hiring Mullen would be seen as a really good hire across the country FWIW. I really don't care about that though. Odds are Mullen would win here. If you win at Tennessee, everything else will take care of itself.

Big splash and statement is overrated. Harbaugh was the biggest splash hire the last 5 years and it’s got them no where. Charlie Strong was a splash at Texas look at that.

Cape Town is Majestic. Take the Gold coast drive to Cope point. Fisk Hook is a great drive and the out lying areas like Stellenbosch (hope that's right) is just gorgeous. One of my favorite countries to have ever visited and I have seen bunches.

I'm just saying you may not be the best judge of coaching acumen unless it's painfully obvious one way or the other.

Cmon man. A win is a win. But getting all excited about beating a 4-6 Arkansas team with a dead man walking coach? That’s really impressive to you?

And let’s be honest you’ve flip flopped more in this coaching search than Jayson Swain.

Bottom line is Mullen would likely have Tennessee in the 8-11 win range just about every season. I just don't think we can ask for better than that.

The win today is not that impressive to me personally. It's his body of work that's impressive. My only question will Mullen would be can he recruit at the level of UGA and Bama. He'll be able to land top 15 classes easily. We need top ten classes on an annual basis to hang with those programs consistently.

The body of work is impressive. A loss today wouldn't have changed my mind on Mullen. So I especially disagree with the idea a close win vs. a solid SEC program fighting for bowl eligibility and its coach job should count against him in any way.

And I've not flip-flopped on anything at all. Gruden would be great hire but still feels unlikely. Mullen would be a great hire as well. If you can find anywhere I've contradicted those two statements I'd be surprised.

I’m in the minority but I don’t think the choice is between Gruden and Mullen. If it were I’d be full Gruden.

So before this season, perceived 8-10 wins with Jones was "accepting mediocrity" but 8-11 with Mullen is all we dare ask for?

Not following the logic.

What makes these kind of games tougher is coming off a huge emotional and disappointing game like last week against UA. Plus playing a 4-6 team that you feel you may not have to get all that emotional about.

Butch Jones also had 4 conference titles as an HC, that's something he has that they don't. No way are these guys significantly better candidates than him just because they had been P5 coordinators at some point in their careers.

Well, so many complained about Butch's offense. So many are picking and choosing what they want to argue.
