So. If we hire this guy and after 2 or 3 years we still suck are we going to determine UT screwed up again or will we just blame it on youth and not having "his" players like before?

Who cares. Just fire him and start over again.

Just like we would /should do regardless of who we hire.

But let's not plan on failure just yet.

I agree. And I also agree if a certain someone were hired and couldnt get it done. Im just really afraid if we dont get it right this time we will fall so low that we can never get back. The rough decade or so will become permanent. Already kinda wonder if it isnt too late.

I don't think anyone is obsessing over Mullen. And I for one have never had him as my #1 choice. I had him at #2 behind Patterson because I never thought Gruden or Kelly were viable choices. Gruden because I just don't think he wants to coach college, and Kelly, based on stuff he has said previously, prefers either the West coast or East coast to Mid-America. Even if he came I feel like he would be likely to pull a Kiffin at the first P5 West coast opening.

And I personally would prefer a seasoned P5 HC to an up and comer.

I would admittedly be very excited if either Gruden or Kelly accepted the job, with the realization that there are huge question marks that would come with either of them.

I would also be fine with Frost or Norvell,but certainl not with the same level of excitement that I would get with hiring a proven winner at the P5 level. And either of those coaches would also have plenty of question marks.

Patterson and Mullen both obviously have their own question marks, but both have proven they can take P5 doormats and turn them into quality programs, and do more with less, and I think either can get UT to Atlanta fairly quickly if they were to come to UT, but that last is just my opinion.

I would be thrilled with either of the 2, but since most of the chatter seems to be about Mullen to UT, he is the one I am more focused on right now.

I would assume we will do the same as we would if Gruden is hired but we still suck 2-3 years down the road.

If UT gets Mullen and Florida gets Kelly, we are screwed. Shut it down

Mullen has proven that he is no better than Jones without a dynamic QB, ala Dak Prescott.

UT should strive to do better

I know he doesn't have a lot of HC exp......but if FL lands Chip I hope Tennessee gets Frost......although he is prob my #2 or 3.

Mullen has also proven he can get and develop qbs.

Smith, tebow, prescott, Fitzgerald....

Are you high? What Mullen had done at Miss State has been nothing short of impressive. When did Butch ever have the #1 ranked team in the country? Miss State was absolute trash before he got there.

I would be ok with Frost. I just dont get how some seem to feel like wanting and expecting an elite coach to come to UT is wrong. Especially if we are willing to pay up.

and? again, it's at MSU. Mullen brought DP to MSU and all he did was become best QB in school history.

he broght NF to MSU and he's done is become the 2nd best QB in MSU history.

now you can say the bar is pretty low. and it is.

you could also say, that...on one else has done it there, twice.

and it doesn't mean that every qb he brought to TN would be the next "best" qb in TN history.

mainly because of...yep...the differences in TN and MSU football.
