Recruiting Forum Football Talk XLIV

Well, I'm sure everyone who's ever been in this thread, except me, has read this article, but it is the first convincing evidence I've seen that we MAY BE wishing for something that we don't need. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure we would have 2 or 3 top three recruiting classes, but....Why Jon Gruden wouldn't be a good college coach - for Tennessee or anybody

I still say go for Gruden first, but next on my list (today)...

Frost
Mullen (Not the sexy hire, but maybe the safest)
Petersen
Patterson

Venables

Also, it seems pretty disingenuous to say that while also acknowledging that Currie isn't in town. Lol.

"He's probably interviewing someone. Hell, we don't know. I'm not going back to the airport no matter how much you guys say I'm just a puppet for the athletic department. Alcoa Highway traffic is ridiculous." - Hubbs

SOmeone on 247 said they saw him on the complex today.

Baseball coach.

It's relevant because the hire went very quickly after interviews. Currie offered job during interview at S AL coaches home in the early evening and was turned down and then flew at midnight to meet with tv

A baseball hire and a football hire are in two different universes. IMO

Ziti doing what he does best

Being rational while the board melts.

Gruden at that podium

Its not even being rational. We were told to expect misinformation after a contract was potentially signed. Plus all you need to do is look at history. In 2011 Urban Meyer and Ohio State did the same thing. They agreed to a contract 2 weeks before the end of the season. The story leaked. They denied it. Then 2 weeks later Urban Meyer was introduced as the new head coach.

If no coaching hire is gonna be announced until after the last game, then we should expect a misinformation campaign right now if Gruden already signed.

Of course they are but the interviewing process doesn't have to be.

Currie needs an agreement in place before we play Vandy. He then travels to meet face to face with said coach and if all goes well the deal is final. A matter of hours.

There simply is no need for face to face before Vandy imo.

I lost zero confidence in Gruden being our next coach today. Anticipated this all a long time ago.

I think it’s done and been done for a while. Now it’s about the timeline.

Of course I will feel pretty silly if we don’t get him but that’s ok. I’m a Vol fan. Been feeling silly for about 15 years.

At this point, no one knows until Jon Gruden's agent publicly says that he was not interested or UT officially announces someone else.

The last 2 weeks have been wild, but it's time to wait it out until something is announced.

So you think setting up an interviewing, discreetly, characters like Petersen, Mullen, Patterson ect... is on the same level as TV? Someone that I as a Vol fan didn't even recognize. Someone that 99% of Vol fans couldn't pick out of a lineup. Ok.

I want Gruden and believe he is still in play, but you guys are crazy to be so out on Mullen. He would have us competing for the east every year after he had time to build a roster.

No he wouldn't. He's an above average coach. Maybe he gets lucky and wins the East. But he's not gonna get us back to the level of success we deserve.

I haven't either. 50/50 for me

Cant lose hope until one side actually denies it themselves

Even then we've seen a coach hired that said there's no way he's taking the job. See Urban Meyer at Ohio State and Nick Saban at Alabama.

Until the press conference is scheduled and someone else is intruduced, it could still be Gruden.
