Jimmy Hyams debunking Grumors

Lol. Jimmy is right there with about half of this forum. Hoping he is right so everyone else is wrong.

C’mon.... Hyams would love nothing more that cover Gruden as HBC of TN. Ratings and ad revenue would spike for a year or two.

He’s just a realist and doesn’t think Gruden leaves his cushy TV gig to come kiss high school kids ashes and only being allowed 20hrs/week of practice time with his team.

He gets a lot of criticism on here for being wrong but he very seldom is - the one example is the black jerseys - and he was wrong, but that was a decade ago. He is very defensive about that and he obviously hates being wrong, to the point that he doesn’t go out on a limb for much. The fact that he is so adamant about Gruden makes me believe there is some validity to it. If nothing else, he absolutely believes that Gruden isn’t coming.

He is rarely wrong. I've met him in passing a couple time and he was a really nice guy.

The Gruden thing isn't hard to figure. His agent in 2012 said Jon to UT was "fantasy land"

Right know we have 500 "journalists" all quoting the same Brice tweet.

I tell you what being a realist is on this subject... he wants to coach, not about what is easy anymore. At least that's my opinion since he stated at beginning of year he wanted to coach again.

Hyam's is right on this one. I don't think this search will end well.

So who does he think UT ends up with? Norvell? Really?

All this **** this entire week and they end up with Norvell?

What has Norvell accomplished that justifies hiring him unless like 10 coaches tell UT no thanks?

This is absurd....

I don't think they will get Gruden either....but Dan Mullen needs to be the absolute lowest coach on totem pole they end up with.

Needs to be Gruden, Patterson, Dan Mullen.

Mullen had freaking MSU ranked 1 in country few years ago. Freaking MSU. A traditional bottom dweller. He also has his current team about a top 15 team in country....and this was supposed to be a crap year for MSU.....

These "journalists" are nothing more than hookers. The fans who keep clicking incessantly are well umm ...

I think we end up with Norvell or similar. What about our program makes you think otherwise?

If I was Currie, I’d have all these people chasing a Gruden misdirection so I could do my search unnoticed. Don’t misunderstand me I’d love to have Gruden, but just think he may want to coach in the NFL.

It's okay. Jiminy has always been the most available tool and water carrier for the University. And in this case he is smokescreen whether he realizes it or not.

This seems like a terrible strategy for an AD. Set the expectation as high as possible and then deliver 6 notches below. If that's true then Currie is the dumbest AD in the country.

I don't buy it.

The fact that Norvell doesn't deserve 6, 8, 10 million a year....but Mullen, Patterson and possibly Gruden do...

UT has the resources to hire a coach and should NEVER have to settle for a coach making less than 2 million a year.

He could be right about meeting about the job "today". They could have met all day yesterday about the job - he's not saying that didn't happen.

I get your point, but how has Currie done this? He has said anything about Gruden, so how has he set that as the standard? You can’t tie rumors by random posters to that’s what Currie is doing. It’s like people saying “If gruden is playing us like this”. He hasn’t said anything, we’ll except yesterday when he said he’s happy with his job. Don’t get me wrong, I like all the hype and rumors, but they are in fact just that, rumors. Currie, nor Gruden have either said anything to lead us on.

Mullen, Patterson, and Gruden are pipe dreams at any salary.

Or the smartest AD. He could simply say, we talked to John and had no interest in the position.

The same Jimmy Hyams that two hours before the news of Kiffin’s hiring broke said he wasn’t a serious candidate?

Too bad he was wrong. Can't believe someone holds it against him when his conclusion was in our best interest. Takes a real knucklehead not to figure that out.
