Listen I think he’s gonna be a good coach but the best coach he’s faced is... DJ Durkin? Mike Norvell? A couple guys UT fans would riot to if we even considered?

That’s some wishful thinking at this point that he’s taking out Saban.

Well, the way I look at it is: You can take a Mullen or Patterson this time around, and they might get you to the promised land. They are good coaches, no doubt.

If you whiff on your hire, this time around, 3 years from now, you can still find a good coach like them, if you are willing to pay the money.

If you fail to take the young guy, Frost, he may have totally proven his worth, and be unobtainable by the next time around. There is definitely a bit more risk involved, but to me it is called swinging for the fences.

If we can't get Gruden, I would go for Frost next. If for some reason we don't get him. Well, I assume at least one of the two others will still be waiting for our call. Maybe, maybe not. It's all conjecture at this point.

But if you want to beat Bama on a regular basis, I say you go for "the next great coach." I am guessing that person will be Frost.

Doesn't seem logical to me either. If it's Gruden, does it make much a difference whether you announce it tomorrow or in 10 days? To me it doesn't.

And no sitting coach will want the distraction for their current team. Frost is coaching for a New Year's Bowl, Mullen would want to leave Starkville on a positive note, and Patterson is coaching to reach the Big 12 title team (guessing on this one).

Makes a huge difference in recruiting.

We aren’t announcing a coach until after Vandy. I would just about bet my house on it.

I'm with BZ on this. If we hire an active coach and announced him before the season was over would deflate their present team and all they have worked so hard to achieve. Plus just not ethically right I believe.
