I think he will be a good (but not great) coach, and not exactly what we really want. I see him as a Mark Richt/UGA at best, but never really able to get us over the hump.

Sounds good to folks right now after being bad for so long, but I promise it will get old. Just hate the dropoff from Gruden to him. Terrible.

CMR was one bad QB decision away from a NC and if he was still at Georgia, I think they would still be 9-1 right now AND he would've known he would need a QB who can keep the D honest like Smart. Don't think comparing any coach to be like CMR would be an insult.

I'll be eager to see if any other candidates are interviewed this week. Hubbs seems to be spot on with everything besides Gruden.

Coaches who can possibly win 50/50 games with Saban, given Tennessee resources, IMO.

1. Petersen
2. Patterson
3. Meyer
4. Swinney
5. Bob Stoops
6. Chip Kelly
7. John Gruden
8. Various NFL coaches (Sean Payton)

Coaches who MAY be able to beat Saban 50/50. By definition, this is complete speculation based on potential and is filled with debate fodder. I don't even buy most of these:

1. Scott Frost
2. Tom Herman
3. Jim Harbaugh
4. Kyle Whittingham
5. Mark Richt
6. Matt Campbell
7. Justin Fuente
8. Tom Herman
9. Dan Mullen
10. ....

They’re not gonna announce a coach the day before a game.

Doesn't seem logical to me either. If it's Gruden, does it make much a difference whether you announce it tomorrow or in 10 days? To me it doesn't.

And no sitting coach will want the distraction for their current team. Frost is coaching for a New Year's Bowl, Mullen would want to leave Starkville on a positive note, and Patterson is coaching to reach the Big 12 title team (guessing on this one).

So how many MOU's has Gruden signed at this point?

All of them.

I don't think Jimmy thinks it's all fantasy. He's just sure in his sources that Gruden would ultimately turn any college job down.

It's a good stance to put out there because, like or not, it is what's MOST likely.

It's going to be extremely difficult to talk Gruden into the challenge. But we're in the door and that's because Currie and the administration around him have done a very good job.

Mark was and is a top level coach IMO. Had he taken a more hands on approach on offense toward the end of his UGA career, they might have won a national title. He's doing that now at Miami and he has them in playoff contention.

100% agree. He and Andy Reid’s careers have so many similarities.
