Official Jon Gruden Thread 34

The part most arent talking about in the Mike and Mike segment is when the interview was done. It didnt speak to the possibility that he would be our coach but they did sing his praises. They were in awe of his work ethic and his early wake up to game plan at 315am and the amount of respect the coaches that had worked with him had for Gruden. They both bragged at just how genuinely a good guy he was and that he was possibly the best offensive mind ever in the business. Now lets question whether he would be a good college coach?? Come on! He is the most desired coach not currently employed

Talisker 10 -- Friday, November 10th - decision to fire Jones?

Oban 14 -- Tuesday, November 14th - Gruden supposedly on campus?

Macallan 21 -- Tuesday, November 21st - ESPN leaks news?

Macallan 25 -- Saturday, November 25th - Vandy and new coach announced?

I know, straight up X-Files stuff and I will GTFO if need be. Just had to throw this out.

Put this on a powerpoint and we will present your case.

What if the pivotal part of today is the landing of a certain assistant like others have speculated?
What if the reason it's such a big deal is because that assistant is one Lane Kiffin?

I listened to JG's interview w/Mike & Mike on the radio. Without seeing it, I cannot comment on body language. My takeaways:

- JG sounded really tired. And even more tired than he did on Gruden's Grinders after MNF.
- Mike & Mike had to ask the question. It was their last show, last time interviewing JG, etc. etc. Not addressing the elephant in the room would have been journalistic negligence and been obvious as to why they weren't asking it.
- JG's response can be interpreted any way you want too. I think he was intentionally vague and wouldn't read anything into the specific words.
- JG's smart, until something is announced (whether its him or not), he's going to remain vague - it gives him maximum leverage with his current employer and everyone else

Net/net... my take on the interview - nothing to see here. We are the same place we were before the interview and who knows where that is.

"I guess I have to say it," Saban said. "I'm not going to be the Alabama coach."

Seriously... He's gonna say he's the next head coach of Tennessee on Mike and Mike?! Give me a break! He could have outright denied the coaching position... like the "other guy" did and still become HC. I feel like i'm in a bad relationship right now, just being happy to hear his voice! :)

Gruden:

"Well you know Mike, I haven't talked to anybody and all I really have in my life is my family and football - that's about it. And, uh, I'm real sensitive to the coaches that are out there coaching so I don't speculate.

I just love football. I'm trying to hang on to the job I have. I'm very fortunate to be with the people I'm with. Uh, I don't know what's gonna happen in the future - I just know this: I'm gonna continue to give my best effort to the game ... stay prepared and uh ... I love Monday Night Football. Don't plan on leaving, but as you know in life, you never say never to nothin'."

doesn't sound good boys

In his/her defense, one could ask:

"Why the hostility toward differing opinions and refusal to allow dissenting discussion, on a messageboard platform that's built on the concept of discussion?

Wouldn't the "bubble" claim be proven out by those in here that literally say, "Don't disagree. Agree or GT_O"?

You may need to turn that chastising attitude on your fellow countrymen in the Grumors threads.

Well, Orange, you know me. You know I've been a football forum denizen these past couple of years. You probably don't know that I just discovered the Grudenite community a few days before you did, but it's true. I don't think they'd count e as one of their countrymen; I'm a newb here just like you and 83 and others.

I think their hostility to nay-sayers comes from the pain of 2012. Honestly, seriously, I think it runs that deep for most folks here. Apparently, some of them, like Boro and a fellow I don't know named DTO, really got treated harshly for supporting Gruden back then.

I drew an analogy to an isolated Pacific island tribe in another response, and the more I think about it, the better that analogy fits. The community here have not had positive experiences in the past, interacting with the wider VN.com community, and harbor some resentment. They're very protective of what they have (for good reason; it's a very nice community). They meet perceived hostility with hostility. But they don't chase you down and kill you; they just run you off their island. Happy to live and let live, as long as you let them be who they are.

And who they are is simple: Gruden fans. Believers that the best path forward for Tennessee football is with Jon Gruden at the helm.

Gotta say, I agree with them on that.

THANKS..... That interview was the most positive thing I have heard.....

My Gruden meter just went to 90%.....

"As you know, never say never to nothing"

90% sounds great. Are you sure you and Doyle haven't been banging the Gruden Meters against the floor to raise the needle?

Boro seems pretty confident that Butch Jones won't be back next year so I'm going to sit back and enjoy the ride.

Only reason to read a little bit more into this time, is that in 2012, he denied it.

Yeah, I understand that.

But the GTFO and STFU bits aren't really meant in a hurtful way. They seem crazy harsh to folks who just join the thread, until you research the history of the community that resides here.

And I'm serious, there are a lot of good people in this thread who I'd NEVER seen before a couple of weeks ago. People who have a lot more time on VN.com than me. It's like discovering an entire tribe on an isolated island in the middle of the Pacific, like whoa! How'd they get here.

And just like any meeting of two cultures, their ways are different than, say, the football forum. On one side, they're some of the nicest people you could possibly want to meet. Real salt of the earth folks with interesting insights and great senses of humor. On the other side, they're really quick to throw spears and shoot arrows at people who come in as "invaders," who try to force outside viewpoints on them.

So anyway, guess all I'm saying is, take a minute to get to know folks here, and I think you'll find that they don't mean to be nearly as rude to you as you thought--they are only responding to what they perceive as hostility with canned responses of their own.

One thing is for certain: the climate, the camaraderie here are far better on the whole than in the wider football forum community.

It's a culture thing. Get to know them. You'll see.

Great anology

Loved hearing that, the last sentence...his entire response was elevated with his placement of "but"

I love Monday night football BUT, never say never to anything. The but came so fast. That's a tell. Gruden to the hill.

He couldve said...i hate the thought of coaching college football and I will never do it...and yall would somehow turn that into ...BOOM!!, he basically said hes coming to UT.

But ill say this, trying to follow this Gruden thread is definately entertaining.

I have confirmed that to be true.

Now just relax.

I think you know ? That I have been told Lane Kiffin would be the OC..... the same person also mentioned Ron Zook as DC... I just don't know?

But that could certainly be the pivotal issue !

Relax.
Be Calm.
Expect More Ups and Downs.
Many misinterpretations/opinions of the words of Curry and Gruden.
Have faith in all that happens.
Remember, there are trolls, media outlets and some Vols that do not want this to happen, ever.
Everybody rides
Contracts take time and this is the Currie's Show.
Sit back and ride the wave.
