If it is truly confirmed that Currie is contacting recruits, he definitely has someone already locked up, or is very sure of his plan B and C...
You don't have the dang AD contacting recruits unless something is super solid... too much bad press and fallout if things go sideways...

I know you work in the AD, and some of the names you floated over the past couple of weeks worried me. I hope they give Jimbo a call as well, if we miss on our #1.

Gruden has not accepted the job. He is vetting staff members to be able 5o have a better understanding of whether or not he would be able to do the job effectively. Currie is pushing for an answer either way. We could get it this week.

Florida is going to hire Frost. I understand Chip Kelly's name is circulating there right now but I'm not buying it. He's waiting for a job with less pressure but with comparable pay.

Tennessee will try to reach an agreement with Mullen quickly if Gruden turns us down. They will be willing to pay well over market value to do so. If he declines, they will go to Chad Morris (or a mystery candidate that comes out of nowhere like Kacy Rodgers).

After thinking about it, I don't buy Taggart as a realistic candidate. We may get to him in the search eventually, but I don't see Tennessee giving him a big enough raise to entice him to come to this rebuilding situation over the Oregon job he's currently got a year's worth of work in.

I'm okay with any scenario that brings either Gruden or Mullen to UT and keeps Kelly out of Florida. Seems like a big drop off from Mullen to Morris though.

He called all the baseball recruits as well. Weeks before the hire and he didn't have it lined up

Bruce was smoking crack during that interview. Said you did t have to worry about off field issues in the NFL. The major difference is recruiting, and even that's still in the NFL, only thing is you get to use money in the league openly.

John Currie is a boss with this whole thing so far. Boosters are leaks, AD is not cause Currie doesn’t tell them anything. 8 sites speculating many different people. If Currie pulls off Gruden which I think he will (can’t even believe I am saying that after I immediately wrote idea off) then he is not a home run hire as an AD but a grand slam. The fact he has been so good with recruits is a cherry on top. That guy loves Tennessee. I will go back to his answer on the question of why. Nothing but we weren’t winning enough.

John Currie might be a monster in the best of ways.

Not an insider. Just a fan that cares.

IMHO we have a HBC named before LSU kickoff.

No reason for Currie to have pulled the plug on CBJ unless he had his new man in the bag. That eliminates all the currently employed coaches like Mullen, Frost, Morris, etc. as they are men of character and are not going to bail on their current teams. Currie could have let CBJ twist in the wind until season's end if those guys were in play. We are not going bowling; 2017 season is lost. So why fire him now?

I hope it is Gruden. I am just not believing that he wants it as badly as we do. I hope I am wrong.
