Give me the assumption Gruden is a no-go and we have to move on to other candidates.

5 years from now, what is Mullen's average yearly record at Tennessee?

9 win average and two appearances in Atlanta over the first 5 years. And if he brings the caliber of QB he is capable of brining into those games in Atlanta, anything is possible.

It's the end of the night at the bar and you're happy you're going home with the 6 so you don't have to go home with the 2.

Exactly. The most worrisome part is the fact there were a bunch of 8's and 9's and maybe a 10 or two interested earlier in the night but they were too chicken **** to spit some game and close the deal.

I like Mullen and think he’d be a nice upgrade but some of you have lost your minds with this Mullen hype.

When he gets destroyed today the hype will wear off. As if Georgia killing him wasn't enough. South Carolina put up a better fight than Mississippi State versus Georgia. No way I want Mullen at Tennessee.

There's a reason he's been at Mississippi State this long. Herman got a better job than him a lot quicker for a reason.

Who do you think we have a legitimate shot at getting in your opinion? I want to believe we can get a homerun hire this time.

I, personally, don't have much faith in the AD getting this right. History says they will hire an unimpressive coach with an average record. I hope they prove me wrong.
We could get pretty much any of the coaches that have been rumored if we would put half the effort as we apparently do with Gruden. Gruden is a waste of time imo.

You didn't ask me but I'd guess he'd average 9 regular season wins over 5 years. That's including a 7 win season next year.

That's my guess as well.

Here is the University of Tennessee historical record (per Wiki) 829-375-53 for a winning percentage of .681.

Averaging 9 wins in a 12 game year would put our winning percentage at. 750. Even those who are considered anti-Mullen concede this would likely be his floor.

Tennessee is top 10 in wins all-time and we would be beating that pace.

Hire Mullen.

Mullen has been approached by Florida and Penn State since being there.

I think most people are smart enough not to base a coaches entire career on one game in one season. Actually, they probably aren't.

Approached but not hired huh? Why hasn't he left yet? We will end up only average under him. Waste of time to bring Mullen to Knoxville.

It’s his choice to take another job. He turned down Florida twice. Don’t know if he was ever actually offered Penn State but they were interested. Chris Peterson turned down Florida twice while at Boise..was he a bad coach for staying put? Mississippi State has been a better ran program under Mullen than we have in 15 years so i would gladly take that and the upside with our recourses.

I think in the long run he would average 9 or 10 wins a season with a + or - of 1 or 2 games once or twice every 5 seasons or so. We'd at least be in the hunt for championships more years than not IMO
