He would likely bring most of his staff from MSU. I guess paying them more would make them better?

Checked yesterday and Grantham has that defense 9th in the country in total yards given up.

But you're right, I'd hate to be that successful. I prefer my defenses to give up 8 yards a carry right up the gut.

There is still a probability that this will be his best win, since he's not beaten a ranked team to finish better than 8-5.

LSU is currently 6-3 with manageable games on the schedule. Arkansas, TN, A&M and Bowl game remain.

This might be the year he beats a team with less than 5 losses!!

He has reached the ceiling at MSU. If you think he does that at UT as his ceiling then you are saying UT is equal with MSU when breaking it down to a program's ceiling. Mullen would do better here as long as he recruited at a top 10 level. He's a good coach.

Speaking of the original staff, I went back and looked at 2013 roster. That was an awful roster minus a couple of groups such as QB.

He's only a hero here if he coaches.

Nah, he's a hero now. He's not going to take the job this go around but he'll be near the program, talk about how much he loves Tennessee, and he'll go right back to hero status.

People love when a famous person makes them feel special. It can even get you elected president.

Completely disagree.

Perception of Tennessee is really bad. As someone said, we are viewed as Vandy. A Tennessee offer does not carry the weight it once did. People who think that Tennessee recruits itself I think are missing out on the shift that has happened.

In the SEC, Tennessee is in the company of UK, Vandy, SC, Mizzou... with SC and Mizzou having MUCH more recent success to sell.

And yet we had top 10 classes recently. Jones is Vandy level view now but not UT IF THEY MAKE THE RIGHT HIRE. If they hire a BOBO then I agree with you.

Pretty much the reason I think comparisons of him to Urban at Utah are really premature. Urban was beating P5 teams handily at Utah and Bowling Green. None of them were exceptionally good teams, but when you’re a G5 school, beating an 8 win Oregon, Cal, and A&M is super impressive.

Frost’s team looks good this year, but they haven’t really played anybody. I love his track record and think he’ll be a good coach (if take him without thinking twice), but I wanna see how his team does against a big boy school before I start comparing him to any of the tier 1 coaches out there.

Edit: Just to go a bit further depth into how impressive Meyer’s track record was pre-UF:

2001 BGSU
In 2001, he took over a BGSU team that was 2-9 the previous season and hadn’t won more than 5 games in since 1994.
In his first year as a HC, he went 8-3 and beat two P5 teams, Mizzou and Northwestern. Neither were good teams that year, but both would have been expected to beat BGSU heading into the season. BGSU was Mizzou’s warm up game week 1.
2002 BGSU
His second year at BGSU, he went 9-3 and again beat two bad P5 teams in Kansas and Mizzou.

2003 Utah
Utah was much better than BGSU was when Urban got there. They’d gone 5-6 in 2002 and 4-7 in 2000, but had gone 8-4 in 2001 and 9-3 in 1999. Urban’s first year there, they played went 10-2. They beat an 8-6 Cal 31-24 and an 8-5 Oregon team 17-13. Their two losses a 28-26 loss to a (bad at the time) A&M in week 2 and an inexplicable 35-47 loss to an OK New Mexico team. They beat Southern Miss in the Liberty Bowl and ended ranked 21st in the nation.

2004 Utah
Utah went undefeated with wins over 3 or 4 P5 teams (depends on whether you count Pitt, who was in the Big East at a time when 2 of the conference’s members would go on to become G5 schools). They beat a 7-5 A&M 41-21, a 3-8 Arizona 23-6, a 6-6 UNC 46-16, and an 8-4 Pitt 35-7 in the Fiesta Bowl.

Frost's best win to date was UCF's 40-13 thrashing of Memphis. I do think it's unfair to hold scheduling against him (especially since the GT game was hurricane'd out), but it's hard to tell just how good UCF really is because of their scheduling.

Frosts second year is every bit as impressive as Urbs. He beat MD (power 5) 38-10, Memphis is 8-1, beat Cinci 51-23, SMU is much better under Chad Morris. He isn't squeaking by, he is killing most teams.

He's a hero because everyone thinks he could possibly be coaching here.

What's your take on beaver?
He does a great sales job on VN but some of his deleted tweets sound like a drunken scientologist trying to convince others to convert.

Like dual personalities.

Whether or not he knows what he is talking about, I think his "riddles" are creative. Smart guy. I think he has some connection, but I think he made a mistake early on by saying it was a done deal. Things can always change.

I'm rolling with Nick on the Mullen thing.
I think Mullen is a very good coach and we would be highly respected with him here. But my opinion is he'll never be elite no matter where he goes.
As long as we're in search mode, I want someone that gives me that elite vibe. At least until that's just out of the realm of possibility, then I will get behind any solid hire made.
