Another fun one...

Avg position of Top 25 opponent and score average and record for each team over that time

Respectfully...

1. I would not be on the Butch bus. My standard is beating everyone not in our big 3, being at the very least competitive against the big 3, and depending on ups and downs of each program I need at least a win each season against those. General expectations at least.

2. Frost is pure speculation. Could be wrong. He will not coach here though, so I’ve mostly dropped that

3. Not animosity against Mullen. I’ve stated many times he is an upgrade, and that I could be wrong, but I certainly build my case against him. I dialogue with those who oppose my views and concede good points. Freely admit my projection may be wrong

4. You yourself state he is no home run. Personally, I want a homerun and you may say this is the crux of my argument against him

5. Saying we could do worse is not my standard. Can we do better? If so, do it

5. But what if he’s the best we can do this time?

If Gruden says no, by most accounts it will be because he just doesn’t wanna be here.

If Frost goes to Nebraska, then it will be obvious he’d had that in mind all along (if he goes to UF, that’s probably the most logical next step for him, TBH).

Guys like Patterson or Peterson have no incentive to leave their current programs.

That pretty much just leaves Chip Kelly as far as big time coaches go. I agree he’d be the best we could do (maybe a better hire than Gruden, IMO). But who knows what’s gonna happen with him.

Once you get past him you’re on to either Mullen or maybe Gundy (who has played us for a raise before) or Taggart. I think those guys are all in the same tier (I’m sure different people here would make arguments for any of the 3 being better than the other 2). Some might throw Schiano in here as well.

Then we’re left with the guys like Brohm, Morris, Campbell, Norvell, Durkin, etc. None of them are sure things, though they all have upside.

After that you’re taking a chance on Coordinators, which can be a crap shoot (see Muschamp and Smart).

I guess I just don’t get why some people would be so unhappy with a guy who’s probably at the top of the 2nd tier coaches we could get. We can kick and scream all we want for an elite coach, but there just aren’t many to go around. And there are gonna be 3-5 SEC schools trying to find the next elite coach over the next two months that we’ll be competing with.

Yeah, I want us to hire an elite coach. I want 25 5* recruits per class and world peace too. Expecting that isn’t realistic though.

I just don’t get those who would be upset by a Mullen hire. I can roll with 9 win seasons and the likelihood that we get the next great TN QB (maybe 2-3 even) under Mullen. The best case scenario with him is it becomes apparent that his success thus far was completely in spite of MSU and he makes a leap. Worst case scenario is we get to watch much better football than we’ve seen since the early 2000s. Seems like a pretty good deal to me.

In terms of sure thing upgrades, I’m with you, which is why I am with Frost... who is probably going to Nebraska

Everyone else is a risk, outside of Mullen who everyone would expect at the least, some improvements here.

So do you risk Taggart or Brohm being awesome in a couple of years or go with Mullen? Fans fall in either camp

Personally I’m not sure Taggart would get things rolling as fast as Mullen. It’s taken him time everywhere he’s been. He’s a great recruiter, but I’m not sure exactly what his ceiling is as a HC. It might be higher than Mullen’s, but I think it will take him longer to get there. It’s a tough call for me here. I’d be happy with either.

I wouldn’t take Brohm over Mullen yet. He had WKU rolling and has Purdue playing hard. But I’m not quite sold on him yet. Could totally be wrong here though and I could see myself coming around to him eventually.

I’m “happy” with Mullen if I’m convinced Frost was no go and Gruden said no. I’d prefer Taggart, but after that risk goes up. Mullen is safe, but Man.... is love to think “this dude is going to win championships “ and he doesn’t check that box for me. Of course very few Check that box. I think Frost is that guy (opinion, very early). I think Taggart could, but very early on that too

I don’t get the man crush every one has on frost. Yes, he’s having success. He’s crushing against the spread.

Why do we think he can do that when you’re not playing with scrubs, your have elite athletes playing against elite athletes, against elite coaching week in and week out?

If you extrapolate the season he’s having this year onto where he ends up... duh.. he’s the ultimate success. But that’s not how it works.

He coached under Chip Kelly and Helfrich at Oregon .
You would be getting a coach that knows how to coach the spread.

I still think their is a mystery name or two we don't know about . Currie is so tight lipped.

My list:

Gruden - Would be great having a hard time buying in

Harbaugh - Superbowl winning coach as well

Mystery P5 coaches - rumored not on betting list intriguing

Taggart- Would he leave after one year?

Mullen - Backup plan/back pocket?

Brohm - all else fails, Has a pulse fiery.

Silly pick out of the blue Bill Cowher - Mentioned in 2012 cause he had a kid here. JK

Thanks for all the info about Gruden brought over him from the FF, since I can't read it 24/7. I appreciate the negative or positive about him and other coaches, so I can get an idea what's really going on..

I'm going to agree with Ron that there is plenty of smoke and I still have hope on Gruden.

As I recall (although I ignored it) there was also much smoke about Charlie Strong during the Gruden 2012 extravaganza, and this year it seems to be pointing at Mullen-- I'm thinking we are seriously looking there. Concerning Mullen, I'm not jumping for joy. I'm kind of sitting where Nick is. I think it will be an upgrade, just think we need someone splashy to make recruits take notice so we can get ahead of the Kirby wave. Kirby could be a Muschamp fluke, but as long as he gets these top players, he'll ride high for a while. Also, we have to deal with whoever Florida hires.

Kelly would be my second choice, but I don't know how much time/red tape Sankey could put us through. It could set us way back again, if he denied us.

I like Campbell, too.

I could bring a lot more, but I heard through the grapevine that the RF doesn't want it over here. I'll drop the major nuggets on occasion if you want me too. I thought the 2 from last night were pretty substantial. There's been a lot of substantial nuggets there that have been missed by most except those of us in the Gruden threads. Some of you would be mind blown.

Dude, just bring it. There are no restrictions as to what info you can bring. Some of us enjoy it and appreciate it, especially during a season with this much misery. It’s nice to have some fun and hope for a better future for our program. If posters here don’t want to read it, then there is an ignore button that they can hit.

You will have fun bro. If you get the change do eat you some Kingclip fish. Best I have had in any country. Take it all in and enjoy its history. And oh when they say go to the robot and turn left, don't be looking for robots like I did only to find out that's what they call their traffic lights. lol Praying for your safe trip.

Thanks! I appreciate the prayers and the advice.

Actually, not really. He should finish last in that division every year.

Last two years, second to last

Overachiever?

In fact, only 3 years better than 2nd to last

But you’re not going to bait me into carrying on with this. I keep trying to drop it 😆

Ok. I'll drop the relevant info from the proven posters and media.
BTW... Atlanta Vol said he was at 70% a few days ago and wouldn't tell us if he hit 100% and he hasn't posted since.
Matts24012 is also VERY optimistic.

I've actually spent most of my time in the RF in my years on Volnation, mainly in recruits threads. Unfortunately the Gruden threads are in the FF, so that's where I'm having to live for the moment. It feels good to be back in the RF even if it's just occasionally. :)
