I count 16 drafted NFL players since he took over Mississippi State. Butch coached 9 drafted NFL players at Cincy alone. 6 at CMU and of course 6 at Tennessee. I’m not counting Jawaun James since he should be Dooley’s. If we go the players they coached as assistants, Dooley’s time with Saban prolly keeps Mullen from doubling up, there. :hmm:

I looked up MSU players in NFL draft, and I'm pretty sure it's something like 22 or 23 over the course of Mullen's 9 years there. I know it was one less than UT has put in the draft over the same period despite finishing ranked probably 10-15 spots higher than MSU on average.

2-31 against top 25.

Butchisms.

Soft.

Great Great guy. Good OC. Huge gamble if he can't start winning big games. Fans will turn on him by year two if he isn't winning big, mark it down.

By all accounts this team has talent. Anybody coming including Gruden will have to deal with high expectations.

It's easy to fall into this trap.

Larry is as good a source you will find. He says we are gonna flash the cash this go round and we are going after Gruden.

He also says he doesn’t think JG coaches UT.

I just think we are gonna get the job done this time. Probably foolish to go against Larry’s gut feeling but I’m going to choose to believe we finally bag the big one.

Since people keep bringing up recruting, let’s play this out.

17 year old qb recruit - Hey coach, how do I know I’m making the right decision to be a Vol?

Mullen - I coached up Alex Smith, Tim Tebow, and Dak Prescott

17 year old qb recruit - I’m in!

Second scenario....

17 year old qb recruit - Hey coach, how do I know I’m making the right decision to be a Vol?

Gruden- I coached Brad Johnson in the Super Bowl

17 year old qb recruit - Who?

Gruden- Hi Recruit, I'm Jon Grud...

Recruit- I'm in.

I think people are worried that Mullen would end up being our version of Mark Richt. Good but never great.

I think that's fair. But I also think he could have an untapped ceiling that we haven't seen because of where he's been. He changed the ceiling at State. If he did that here we would be very happy.

Nobody is a sure thing. It's a gamble no matter who we hire.

He's not my first choice but we could be in for some really good times if we got Mullen imo.

If people wouldn’t be happy with a Richt-like run, they are crazy. Period.

Literally the dumbest fake conversations ive ever read on here. In fact this post may challenge the likes of D4H for one of the worst ever.

I wouldn’t say that. Its def close. Franklin is really good.

Mullen’s run at MSU is way more impressive than Franklin’s short stint at Vandy.

Franklin was taking some heat after two years at PSU. Last year, he squeaked out a few big games and beat a whole lot of nothing. This year, he beat Michigan and a whole lot of nothing, and he’s currently riding a two-game losing streak with the Heisman favorite on his team (which he gets some credit for, no doubt, but still).

I guess my point is — other than as a hype man, Franklin had done nothing to impress me until last year, and I’m still not convinced that it isn’t just a blip in the radar with some generational talent on offense and about 10 cupcakes on his schedule.

I wish it was true, but I believe you. I'm at the point that I doubt Butch will be gone till after Vandy, regardless of how bad we lose.

I think he's gone the moment we aren't eligible for a bowl. i think that alone is the termination criteria right now.

After all that Sandusky stuff... I️ didn’t think Penn State would ever been good again or at least for a long time. They are just very different style coaches but both do a very good job.

Yeah, I get it. I'm just going to stick with him until given a reason not to.

Not necessarily you, but it seems like people are doing the same thing they did in August with his information.

A lot of people thought this team was a 9 win team and maybe should get into the SEC championship game. LWS comes by and says this team will struggle to reach a bowl. Everyone says it's just LWS with his normal pessimistic slant and that the truth lies somewhere in the middle.

There is no middle on this. If LWS thinks Gruden isn't going to take the job, it's because 1) Gruden has pushed back, and many have suggested he's already turned the job down or 2) people in the athletic department don't think he's going to take the job.

We should stop posting anything from volnugs. Literally anyone can go and whatever they want.

And you gotta laugh at the Chavis rumors. Who would ever believe that if JG had accepted the job and was interviewing staff that he would go to Chavis?

Ah I kinda like it when we people post volnugs. Volnugs blocked me on Twitter because I replied to one of their crazy nugs and said it was trash haha.

No amount of money gets this done for Gruden. Either he wants the job or he doesn't. It's not like Dan Mullen, who you can entice with a raise and longer contract.

This is just my speculation but Gruden is flirting with Tennessee right now because there is no official job opening. He wants to move his home base to Knoxville and wants all the perks that come with being a multimillionaire in Knoxville - and that goes through the big names at the University of Tennessee. He's listening because it's good business to listen.

Ultimately, when the job comes open, I think he officially let's them know he's not interested.
