Its a fair point you are making but coaching in college doesn't always (usually?) transfer to the NFL amd vice versa. Coaching grown men is different than coaching college kids. Mullen has coached the hell out of some college kids, Gruden has not.
I have no love Mullen, and will not unless he is hired as the HC of our beloved Vols. I simply give reasons, and state facts as to why I think he would do well here. I was hoping you could provide some cons to my pros. The glove wearing is the only valid con I have heard so far.
I understand and agree on Larry, Jav etc. My concern is just the possibility of 'the snowball effect'.
Are they hearing things because those things really happened? Or are they hearing things because even their sources have gotten caught up in an out of control desire to believe.
Thats development not recruiting
Id add... cool, well be able to develop our players better too, so maybe they will perform to their rating
Here's my thing with the Grumors: I don't really think the percentages being laid out to us by the insiders make any sense.
By all accounts Tennessee has given Gruden everything he wants. The administration is at 100%.
So either Gruden takes the offer or he doesn't. It seems to me the percentage is either 0% or 100%. The escalation of "I felt 50/50 a week ago" and "now it's closer to 70%" doesn't make sense unless we keep sweetening the offer.
I like Mullen, but just go through his schedule year by year. He feasted on non P5 OOC games for a while. He is a QB whisperer. I do think he could win the East. Just not sure he could get us beyond that.
Its not even that Im crazy about Mullen. If you watch his teams play schematically, size, and athleticism compared to what we have had the last 10years its a night and day different.
What if, and its a big what if, Mullen has a good showing against bama this weekend? Not necessarily beating bama, but moves the ball and scores some points while keeping the game semi close. How would that change the opinion of him as a coach?
