I think people are worried that Mullen would end up being our version of Mark Richt. Good but never great.

I think that's fair. But I also think he could have an untapped ceiling that we haven't seen because of where he's been. He changed the ceiling at State. If he did that here we would be very happy.

Nobody is a sure thing. It's a gamble no matter who we hire.

He's not my first choice but we could be in for some really good times if we got Mullen imo.

One great season..with a great QB. If Butch had squeaked by Okie and Fluhrduh a couple of years ago..would anybody here be wanting to keep him now?

One? Anything more than 7 wins is great for State lol. You obviously don't remember how bad they were before he showed up... And who cares if it was a great QB? It was a qb he developed that no great schools wanted, Imagine what he could do with a talented QB everyone is after. Oh wait, we already know. What hes done at State is better than what franklin did at Vandy and now Franklin is considered a top 10 coach by nearly everyone

Wins against Oklahoma and Florida would have evidenced that he was a good coach.

But since he isn't a good coach, we lost. Ergo, we are in this position.

If he had had won those games and continued to win those in which he was ahead and had the upperhand... you're darn right i would have wanted to keep Butch, because there would have been no merit to toss him.

I'm not going to ever say Mullen is anything more than a meh hire. It is my opinion and nothing that's been said is changing it. I don't want to get backed into a worse and worse argument just because I'm getting ticked that you guys are ganging up on me like I have no good reasons for feeling the way I do.

I know he has done good things at State, it is asinine to suggest otherwise. He has done nothing to suggest the homerun hire status some of you have hoisted on him in my opinion, and nothing is going to change that at this point. He would be a good hire that will have to work his butt off to achieve the greatness this fanbase is demanding. I don't think he has it in him.

What’s interesting to me is that the people crapping on Mullen were super pro Butch until about the UGA game. Shouldn’t be shocking that people who would ignore the evidence of Butch being terrible would do the same for evidence of Mullen being a good coach.

Since we are talking about what Mullen has done recently, let’s talk about what Gruden has done lately.............oh wait.

Let’s give Fulmer a call since his last year coaching was in 2008 as well, maybe he knows something.

Seeing as how it's the right that has the biggest problem understanding reality... half of them don't even believe the Russia investigation is a thing. Their willing suspense of disbelief is going to give the richest even more of a tax cut to their detriment. Polls are fake because they show Trump at 34% approval.

lol

I just think if you have the chops to get it done at the highest level, then you would be fine in college. Half the battle in college is recruiting and Gruden would kill it in recruiting.

Has there ever been a super bowl winning coach go to college after he won the super bowl, not to mention one with the name power of Gruden? This isn't like Jim Mora jr.
Mike Sherman has his teams in the playoffs basically every year in the NFL and was pretty meh at A&M.

The problem NFL coaches sometimes have adapting to college isn’t that it’s more complex or Xs and Os are more difficult or anything. It’s that there are more stringent time constraints regarding practice, you’ve gotta focus a lot of time on recruiting year round (and that can wear guys down) and there are eligibility issues as well. You’re never gonna lose your best player in the NFL just because he can’t pass a math test.

This definitely doesn't stop Bama.

Of the five QB's in SEC history to pass for at least 3,000 yards and rush for at least a 1,000, he has coached 3 of them.

This isn’t a shot at Mullen but who are you talking about? Tebow did once. Dak never did. (Although he was really only like 17 yards off from doing it once so I’ll count that. Who was the third?

They were still top 10 when he beat them...

Yea, I can't dispute that. But Nick had the stats a couple of weeks ago. Mullen has never beaten a ranked team that finished better than 8-5. Maybe LSU does this year.

I like Mullen, but I am going to say again that his record is bolstered by some non P5 wins. He has only been better than 4-4 in conference one time, and that year he did, he played UK and Vandy in the East.
