Recruiting this year will be difficult to salvage regardless of who is the coach. We just need to get Mays back. Kid is a hell of a player and would give us two first round NFL draft picks on the o-line

Love Charlotte it's an awesome city. I want Mullen or Frost personally but ifGruden is the next coach you won't see me complaining

Nope. I wouldn't complain at all. I would have my reservations about him, but you won't see me complaining.

Seeing as how it's the right that has the biggest problem understanding reality... half of them don't even believe the Russia investigation is a thing. Their willing suspense of disbelief is going to give the richest even more of a tax cut to their detriment. Polls are fake because they show Trump at 34% approval.

This is the wrong thread my man. I respect your opinions but gtfo.

Ranking candidates based on instant impact for the current recruiting class:
1. Gruden - Would likely keep all current QB's and QB commits in the fold if he wanted, keeps anyone he wants from other positions in the class, Mays and Dixon likely come back, and we come under heavy consideration with Trevor Lawrence and 3 or 4 other blue chippers. Top 5 finish.
2. Kelly - Would likely keep all current QB's and QB commits in the fold, keeps anyone he wants from the current class at other positions, Mays and Dixon likely come back, and we become heavily involved with 3 or 4 very solid 4 star recruits. Top 10 finish.
3. Mullen - Would likely keep all current QB's and QB commits in the fold, keeps most of the rest of the class in tact at other positions, Mays and Dixon may come back, and we become heavily involved with 3 or 4 very solid 4 star recruits. Top 15 finish.
4. Taggart/Patterson/Peterson - Could keep most current QB's and QB commits in the fold, keeps most of the rest of the class in tact at other positions, Mays and Dixon may come back, and we become heavily involved with 3 or 4 very solid 4 star recruits. Top 15 finish.
5. Frost - Could keep most current QB's and QB commits in the fold, keeps most of the rest of the class in tact at other positions, Mays and Dixon might visit officially, and we become heavily involved with 3 or 4 very solid 4 star recruits. Top 20 finish.
6. Anyone else - likely keep 2 of 3 current QB's and might hold onto Penix, Is able to hold onto the bottom 2/3 of the current class, Mays and Dixon might visit officially, heavily involved with 3 or 4 more high 3 star-low 4 star prospects. Top 20-25 finish.

Sound about right?

One difference between Saban and Gruden brought up occasionally, but needs more forethought...

Saban is driven to be the best, and would pillage and burn cities to the ground if it stood between him and victory.

Gruden seems to be having trouble convincing himself he even wants skin in the game

Still... bring me Gruden

I understand what you are saying, Nick. But Saban had no previous affiliation with Alabama. Gruden is truly a UT fan. He would be a hero if he came and won, and he should have the confidence to get it done. But he does have relationships.

If Haslam has given Gruden access to his plane since the GA game, something is seriously going on here. I don't think we're just dreaming here. I think its happening. Only thing that makes sense why butch is still here also. As mad as I have been at Currie, surely, surely, he isn't this incompetent. But with us knowing for a fact that Gruden has an offer, knowing that he is using the Haslam plane, this man Gruden is going to be the next TN coach. I BELIEVE!

Surely a super sleuth has tracked this going back to October. Any interesting trips?

If my combat vet father (Vietnam) were alive he'd likely have no issue with it. My Vietnam Era vet step-dad probably could give an ish one way or the other about stuff like that even though he leans republican he'd consider those that put too much faith in flag-based patriotism to be as naive as any pie-in-the-sky liberal. My cousin who retired at LTC (Desert Storm and recent Iraq War/War on Terra) probably hates it as he's very conservative. My female cousin who made general and now teaches at an SEC school is probably 'to each their own.'

As for people closer to my own age... a current MP who I went to school with is very much a republican but progressive on social issues while another (Navy guy who went from enlisted to officer) is a democrat. Neither have an issue with it.

I think Vets are as diverse as Americans in general even though everyone wants to hijack them for their own cause.

The last paragraph is spot on IMO

Pitt QB just went under the center and got a first down on A QB sneak on 3rd and 1. I really miss those days.

Well, I never worried about going shotgun at the goal line with Dobbs under center.

Guy was money at getting in.

I personally don't care what scheme we run, just so that we are smart enough to match the players to scheme or the scheme to
The players

Gene Chizik and Les Miles won national championships. Just playing devil’s advocate here.

NFL and college are totally different animals. NFL is set up for parity in talent.

Look at the list of super bowl winning coaches and find a bad coach on the list.

Chizik wouldn't have sniffed a NC without Cam and Gus. Miles is a pretty good coach.

I didn't hijack squat. I just told you how my dad who has a bronze star and Purple Heart feels about it.

This.

He will not take the job if he doesn't think he can win NC's. That's who he is. He could have gone back to the NFL grind years ago. He wants the right job at the right place at the right time with the right support system and the right authority to get it done. That's what highly successful people do when they contemplate a job change in their areas of expertise.

UT, Currie, and the boosters win big time if Jon Gruden is coach. Not just from winning on the field. They get the credit for successfully righting wrongs and committing to putting the state's flagship program back on track long term. The academic side wins and the businesses of the big boosters win as well.
