They won’t stop watching their favorite teams. But they’ll stop watching sports center, first take, whatever garbage Jemele is on, and many other of the junk that’s on that channel that they may have watched before.

I no longer watch anything but games on ESPN but I still watch plenty of them across the sports spectrum. My habits there haven't changed.

However, other than occasionally watching PTI, I rarely watch any of their other shows, including Sportscenter. The primary reason is they appear to be going after a different demographic that I'm not a part of. No hard feelings on my part, but they've lost me.

I’m in this boat. I watch UT. That’s about it on ESPN. can’t remember the last sportscenter I saw. Same for any of the other junk they show

Bingo.

However, the bandwagon fans of any sport do go away when they are offended by actions of participants and networks. They are not bound by enduring love of teams or a sport in general. They will simply do something else with their time or watch HGTV instead.

Yeah I know people who are casual NFL fans who have completely quit watching the NFL over the anthem nonsense.

We've got friends that watched occasionally that quit because of the SB half time shows. A hundred knife cuts start adding up to real blood loss over time.

Obviously it's not if they are hiring their 3rd coach in 7 years, and Urban had to cite health reasons.

I didn't think I would see the day that someone said that it isn't easy to win at Texas. OU should be the only barrier to a conference title at Texas.

But that's not the reality. There are several solid programs in Texas now and it's no longer an easy job. Been way since they lost to Bama in the championship. It's the same power struggle up top UT experiences. An immense amount of pressure to win and a massive spotlight on your every move. A lot of coaches can't do that. Florida is Strong's turf. He would own it there.

I think that's the problem a lot of people are having. No one wants to own up to it but certain demographics are far more valuable to advertisers than other demographics and those advertisers will pay you more than if your audience consists of another demo. And certain advertisers are more valuable than others - for example, the latest Playstation Ad is more valuable for a network to have than the latest Viagra Ad and the list goes on.

Networks move on when it comes to social changes. They have to in order to survive and that's fine. Audiences migrate too.

I'm a successful 64-year old male who is a serious lifelong sports fan across many different sports...I'm surprised I'm not in their sweet spot.

I hope it works for them but I have to wonder.

Of course they are, but not as their #1 choice. And if Sexton is out here peddling Mullen to UT as the #1 choice despite Gruden and trying to do everything he can to get Mullen to UT then that would piss off a guy like Beav who wants Gruden. Sexton is a powerful man, that should make anyone high up that wants Gruden to UT very nervous.
No, the Beav wants you to believe he has some sort of insider perspective and that internally they find Dan Mullen as repulsive and not an acceptable candidate.

That is outright false and he will likely be our #1 candidate if Gruden turns us down.

You should be based on interests but probably not based on the advertising value of younger demos. Many of us have aged out of a lot 'wanted demos' that advertisers pay premiums for.

From poster on VQ:

According to a post on TOS, Warner Agee reported that Gruden signed the deal this morning...to be announced Sunday.
I do not know the poster, but if Warner Agee reported this, I have to believe. He is not one to throw out BS.

Boys and girls, don't beat me up. Just passing along like so many do. I do know WA and he is credible and has lots of contacts.
Here is the post from TOS...a guy who has been on the site for 15 years.

My son called me a Little while ago to tell me that JG had signed earlier this morning.
He heard Warner Agee (out of Trenton TN) call into 101.5 this morning and say it was a done deal
Evidently Mr Agee has a Highly placed source.
Just throwing it out there...broadcasted this morning
and it is to be announced Sunday...

I am originally from Texas. Sure, TCU and Baylor have made some ground. But Texas is the university in that state. Both TCU and Baylor are both private religious schools. They will have better teams at times, but over time, Texas is the university. You get the right coach, and it recruits itself.

He’s coming!

I'm beside myself when people say they quit watching the NFL over the anthem stuff.

Like, I always meander my way to Fox/CBS around 12:15 anyway and I miss what, like two plays? And people are purposefully boycotting the NFL over whether or not someone stands?

Do these people stand up at home for the anthem? Gimme a break

How many of these "look for news to break on [this date or range of times]" cryptic posts have to be shown to be BS before people start acknowledging that maybe, just MAYBE, they're being taken for a ride?

The people I know who have quit watching are veterans. They find it very disrespectful

That light at the end of the tunnel for ESPN is from the freight train headed right at them.

If Fox sells their entertainment studios/production to Disney as has been suggested, ESPN will probably be spun out or downsized/deemphasized if retained as part of the deal to give Fox more space to operate in the sports segment.
