In 2012, a few days before the TFP and Hargis article, he told me DJ had been contacted by Gruden to consider a position. This was not a message board but a guy from the same hometown as Jones.

I was shocked when it did not happen. I knew we were trying to get him this time but with what came out on Twitter about Jones and I am not talking about the lugnut or whatever that is. This kid we all know whose dad is going to kill him just put out in response to the nug post that Dale Jones had just been contacted by Gruden. The guy I knew in 12 and I have not talked in a long time since our daughters do not play basketball together any longer and he's got a divorce and I just don't see him. But this kid's dad is close to a pretty big booster who is very close to Dale Jones and I will leave it at that. When I heard this in the Gruden thread and saw the Twitter post it just became even more real. I knew we were trying but I think we may really have it done IF all the folks up on the hill are really working together this time to give the control he wants. You guys know I am not a troll and I still want to see him being introduced because I have such little faith in the admin on the hill. But, dang it, someone is really trying and I think he really wants it but on his terms. Must not be about the money any longer. Please don't screw this up JD and JC.

Here’s where I’m at.

Hubbs (FREAKING HUBBS) said everyone is all in on Gruden and the question is whether or not he wants to coach.

That is a fact. You can say pipe dream, not gonna happen, etc. but the FACT is that UT and boosters have gone all in on gruden.

Does he want to coach? Most people say they expect Gruden to return to the sidelines. I’m not talking posters, I’m talking reputable analysts and media members.

Does he want to coach here??? That’s the 10 million dollar question.

Jacket’s right. There’s. TON of smoke out there. And there’s been WAY less leaks this time around. I think in 2012 there was more info coming out, but it feels like this time the dams breaking instead of there being unimpeded flow.

To be honest, I’m doubtful the deal gets closed. Just seems like it’s too good to be true. But I think we are very close.

I am referencing the comment on this from someone who is getting it from a booster who has a skybox and donates a ton and it's about Jones name being in there now and for me it was there in 12 as well. Don't know about Chavis ect cause it was a person in the comment section whose dad will kick his butt for posting it. And kid is an adult but is still the child of the guy whose a booster. Nothing is coming out of AD presently

I just wanna rip the band aid off and get the new staff rolling. This place is really fun when everyone is fired up. Been like you won a dream date with Rosie O Donnell and you didn't even enter around here.

Anyone who believes that Tennessee is accelerating a multi-million dollar hire/fire because of one 18 year old offensive lineman has lost it.

The need for new information in these threads causes people to create fake information to satisfy the desire.

What seems to be true:
- Jones was let go sometime between UGA-UK
- Gruden has been offered a monster deal and is mulling it over
- Two top shelf coaches have expressed interest in the job
- A booster power play was made and they are ready to fix Tennessee football.

All of the above is great news and all of the above is probably all we will know until the fire is public. If Gruden says “yes” we will know and if he says “no” we will know. That bomb shell won’t hide long.

Spot on imo. I don’t have info but this is where we are I think.

I think it’s hard to deny that we’re going after Gruden. It’s exciting to think that our hire floor would be Dan Mullen or Willie Taggart, as the tea leaves and rumors say they’ve expressed interest.

These are the things that I believe as well. I also think you underestimate the importance of losing a high profile recruit. Recruiting is the life blood of the football program and perception can be a killer. I am not saying that said recruit can alter a hire/fire timeline but I certainly think it possible that Mays' family could become privy to information that isn't available to the public, in effort to calm their concerns. Just speculating.

Anyone here a gun enthusiast? Just ordered a handgun recommended to me online and should arrive at the Nashville Armory in a few days. Very excited.

I would be surprised if he ends up in Knoxville, but I don't expect anyone to rule it out. Gruden isn't going to.

Again, my fundamental question remains the same does he want to coach football at any level?
