Good information. One site that I did look at showed that UT had more yards per game in 2016 than MSU. 2015 was only 14 spots lower. I am not surprised at all that CBJ's teams in 2013 and 2014 were not that good in YPG.
The other thing is that the schedule in the west evens out a little bit when you don't play a P5 OOC opponent. I know that I have harped on this before, but you have to dissect the schedules while Mullen has been there. He didn't play at Oregon and a home and home with OU. I am not making excuses either- I want a new coach. But it is reality.
As far as my comments from my friend about MSU's OL, it was just something that he specifically stated. His father knew Jackie Sherrill personally, and they are a family of alums. I believe they are thrilled with Mullen, but the comment made me think that they believe the loyalty to the OL coach may have been holding the team back. This friend also said that the bad relationship between Mullen and Stricklin was overblown- Stricklin just didn't extend him before he left. He said Stricklin was one of four high level AD members in the room when they hired Mullen (Stricklin was not the AD at the time). One thing that is holding back Mullen going to UF (besides Mullen's wife) is that Stricklin would not be well received in Starkville when he has deep ties there and his family lives in Jackson, Mississippi.
Just shedding light on who I have spoken to about the situation. I wouldn't be disappointed with Mullen, at all. I am just not sure that he is a championship caliber coach. At this point though, let's get to Atlanta and anything can happen.
