Did you guys see the replies? We truly do have some idiot fans.

Vol Twitter mafia never miss any chance to run somebody into the ground when they tweet anything. They attacked Ainge when he was giving information on where to drop off tickets that were being donated to kids, the absolutely assault Currie and Davenport any time they tweet pretty much anything. I have not read the replies but I have a pretty good idea about what some of the numbnuts are saying.

This is a good time to just throw this out there. During the past nearly 5 seasons - same period as Butch has been HC - Mullen's offense has more YPG in every year than UT/Butch (Per Rivals). During the time he has gone majority passing yards in four of the seasons until this year. One of the four was really nicely balanced at 506 YPG when their O finished #9 in total YPG. This year is stronger rushing the ball as we have seen played out. He figured out his QB strengths and schemed the O to fit it. It should not be ignored or downplayed - it happened at Starkville in the West Division.

Tells me the guy knows how to adapt a system and play calling to a roster. Upgrade the talent in any direction offensively and he can adapt it. Which frees up how and who you go after in recruiting.

Also tells me that MSU fans who not happy with their O-line play just may be getting antsy and not based their beliefs in reality. From 2013-2017, in order, total yards per game team ranking has been #62, #9, #34, #40, #43. Rushing YPG this season ranks them #11 at 259 YPG. That takes solid O-line development, blocking schemes, and performance to accomplish. Having well developed QB's helps make it happen when the talent at RB is limited.

Good information. One site that I did look at showed that UT had more yards per game in 2016 than MSU. 2015 was only 14 spots lower. I am not surprised at all that CBJ's teams in 2013 and 2014 were not that good in YPG.

The other thing is that the schedule in the west evens out a little bit when you don't play a P5 OOC opponent. I know that I have harped on this before, but you have to dissect the schedules while Mullen has been there. He didn't play at Oregon and a home and home with OU. I am not making excuses either- I want a new coach. But it is reality.

As far as my comments from my friend about MSU's OL, it was just something that he specifically stated. His father knew Jackie Sherrill personally, and they are a family of alums. I believe they are thrilled with Mullen, but the comment made me think that they believe the loyalty to the OL coach may have been holding the team back. This friend also said that the bad relationship between Mullen and Stricklin was overblown- Stricklin just didn't extend him before he left. He said Stricklin was one of four high level AD members in the room when they hired Mullen (Stricklin was not the AD at the time). One thing that is holding back Mullen going to UF (besides Mullen's wife) is that Stricklin would not be well received in Starkville when he has deep ties there and his family lives in Jackson, Mississippi.

Just shedding light on who I have spoken to about the situation. I wouldn't be disappointed with Mullen, at all. I am just not sure that he is a championship caliber coach. At this point though, let's get to Atlanta and anything can happen.

To me, everything except for the OL looks pretty good.

Definitely agree with you here. Mays would do wonders towards helping that OL. I'm sure it will look a lot different come the first game next year, but I think our DL, LBs and Safeties would lead the team to a better than expected season.

You like our DL more than me. I think a switch to a 3-4 base would help us more than anything.

NT- Khalil
Ends- Tuttle and Butler
MLB-Bituli and DK
OLB/Pass rushers Taylor, smith.

It fits our current personnel imo.

I don't disagree with you there either. I think we could benefit a ton from at the very least showing multiple fronts. It would allow for a more natural rotation of players as well. I just think that with a healthy and returning Tuttle and KMac our DL has senior leadership and some nice young depth behind it.

I am excited thinking about getting a healthy Kirkland, Bituli and Sapp all on the field together. And having them with Taylor standing up pass rushing off of Phillips or Tuttle, yes please!

I love the idea of switching up the defensive fronts based on matchups, score, down and distance that sort of thing. Just don't think it's something we ever see with a Butch Jones run team. The man is nothing if not inflexible.

Give me the better coach over the better “recruiter” any day at UT.

Tennessee recruits itself, especially when you start to win some meaningful ballgames.

bingo.

i just want to see players develop when they get here. Not just a couple guys but the vast majority. Its been a while.

Guys.... I am 100% on the Gruden train, but do we really think He is going to roll into Knoxville in the MNF bus to talk about the job? I know, GTFO. I'll go sit in the corner for a while until my Grude-on comes back.

It wouldn't surprise me to see our OL "magically" look better in a new scheme that attack and strength program that actually makes them look like an OL should. I think Trey Smith and Brett Kendrick only ones that looks like they work out their upper body

100% support this and have thought it for awhile as well. You need two years to get it fully implemented, players developed and do some recruiting to it. It would be ideal for the new coach to use Day 1 while rebuilding the mess.

Which coach we may be pursuing favors the 3-4?

I think the trucks really could be in Knoxville right now. I just also think it’s because they are on their way to Charlotte and nothing else. Depends on what route they took coming out of GB.
