Official Jon Gruden Thread XXIX

Haslam is lucky that the Browns have such a loyal fanbase. We need to find a way to keep his nose out of UT football but he can ruin a journalist's career so he has a way of misdirecting info. It's like he's saying to the fans...f+*k you, I'm more important thus he misses the point entirely. It's the fans that generate the huge revenue. Like Cleveland,( I've lived close by,Sandusky), UT fans are just as loyal. I've heard it both ways. He's in on Gruden and then he's not. Some inside know the truth as to the degree of in-house fighting amongst the bigger boosters. One day they may even write a book about it.

A nation divided will not stand. UT took a staggering blow with AD Hamilton. I recall reading once the athletic dept. was $20 mil in the red after Fulmer leaving and combined with Dooley firing,etc....So one can't blame them for being cautious but being business savvy seems to be missing. Michigan should be an example UT could use based on the Harbaugh hire. He had 9-10 former NFL assistants on his staff. I don't know the fiqures other than Harbaugh's annual salary around $7.5 so you could expect about the same if UT hires Gruden and a good staff.

The Gruden hire would likely set a season ticket sales record right off the bat and the university could raise the price $100 without much adverse reaction because most fans would accept the reasoning behind the increase. The hire would pay for itself and that's a no-brainer. It would unite the fanbase to an extent far more than any other hire, IMO. Without much info, I very much think he is coming to UT. It's the most sensible option.

The sad part is the people in charge seem to have no idea what the fans want or they just don't care. I am afraid it is the later.

I may be wrong in saying this, correct me if so, SFD, but....

I think you're conflating two distinctive, independent points here. I don't think SFD is implying his sponsorships are groundbreaking in terms of money (though substantial as they may be), rather, she is saying that Ergen either gets his way (e.g. Gruden or another approvable option) or he walks. He and his team have seen the toxicity of power wielded from the hands of the wrong people. He is challenging that this time around.

Sort of. I'm simply saying that we don't have any idea what the stipulations are regarding sponsorships and/or donations made by ergen or his entities.

Not important if we get Gruden... but was just a question I had...... But I lean more to Anderson than I do Ergen

I do think Ergen is a major player in all this, just fascinating to try and figure out/guess all the angles. I agree none of it is important for us to know. Just need the outcome to be Gruden....

Been thinking about this Gruden **** so much that I completely forgot to bring in a dessert for our Thanksgiving lunch at work today.

Thanks a lot Butch Jones

I think Beaver is a creation of AtlantaVol.

This may be the stupidest comment made in this thread. I mean, levels of stupid that would rival that of the incestual mouthbreathers in Gainesville. You’re one of those people who can’t think of anything clever to say or that will contribute to the thread so you just form words into sentences hoping they make sense or hoping to get a laugh. Have you ever read anything AtlantaVol has ever written? Do you know what he’s done for fellow Vol fans? I hope this was you forgetting to blue font it because if not, you’ve just proved that logic and common sense escaped you at birth.

I don't think Beaver has ever mentioned Ergen. I believe that everyone on here just assumed it. He could have been in Anderson's camp this whole time? Not sure if anyone has said this or not.

I'm still 50/50 on if Beaver is a troll or not.

Also what has ATL ever done to be considered an insider? I'm not calling him out, I just want to genuinely know.

Yeah, I know dozens of people worth 14+ B. We meet for martinis and beers twice a week.

There aren't many institutions with the finanacial backing power that UT has, sans some Ivy Leaguers, Texas and a few others. It would be disingenuous to believe otherwise.

Exactly. It's awfully hard to replace billionaires in your donation pool.

I do not post much at all but here is one thing that I can add. I do not have any confirmation on Gruden yet but I can confirm the power struggle that is being reported by Beaver and others. It is 100% that the Haslems are being overthrown. My son who is very heavily involved in Tn politics is my source. I can't tell his position. With this being true I would hope Gruden comes along with the deal.

He simply asked a leading question which, taken in context, would lead someone to believe that it is ergen.

100% true, those odds mean jack.

Actually I believe there is a conflict of interests with those NON-vegas betting odds and a certain poster on this site.

If you think Beav was able to influence an offshore betting line with 170 posts on a Tennessee message board, then I believe you are giving him WAAAAAAAAAAY more credit than he deserves!

I will concede that I'm certain he's eating up the power you are bestowing upon him, LOL!

I believe it's possible Gruden comes to coach at UT but we need to hear something from someone other than anonymous posters claiming special knowledge. We've been burned by Grude expectations in the past. At this point if he doesn't come this time I will be mad at HIM...for not stopping all this speculation when he easily could have.

What I'm saying, though, is that it is impossible for us to know the value of that sponsorship. All I know is that I've seen a tidal wave increase in the dish logo over the last 5-7 years. It is now on literally everything. That's a sponsor that wouldn't be easy to replace. But I don't know if the actual money exchanged is congruent with the number of times we see the logo. It could be that the money is significantly higher than one would think. Some people want their names on a building. Some want their business to be associated.

I can imagine, whether he's the biggest actual donor or not, the POTENTIAL (and it's not even close) to be the biggest donor gets him a LOT with the university......

Enough humility in way posted to carry validity for me..:good!:

My thing is if it’s not Gruden negotiations that’s holding the firing of Butch Jones up then what is it?? I mean really what else could hold up firing a guy that’s done all this bogus crap, and is having an historically bad season? If there weren’t things going on behind the scenes he’d be gone already in my opinion!! Either that or John Currie is a completely inept waste of space, and Tennessee will never be relevant again. Why approve a 340 million dollar stadium renovation if you aren’t dedicated to winning football?? Fans are not going to show up if you are an inept waste of space!! So obviously something is going on, and I think the reports of offers to Gruden are legit! I believe that, and if you disagree fine! Don’t sit here and tell me I’m wrong though trolls when you don’t know jacksh** either!!
