Shoop defense has been solid but these guys just need a clean slate. I think he probably does too. I think the only guy that Shoop probably is able to stick around with is Mullen possible even then I'm not sure because he might be able to grab someone else with what he can pay here.

Yea I said last night that I respect that thinking. I am hoping the new coach works it out with him but fully understand you guys saying a clean slate is needed

Without a good QB, you become one dimensional. A good QB hides a lot of issues.

If youre relying on a good qb with ok playmakers then your defense better be better than the 2001 ravens

A good qb helps, but if doesnt have the talent at other positions it wont matter

Why would he not have talent here? Dan Mullen at UT would have the best roster he's ever had as a head coach.

Great question. People are skewed by Saban to think that if you pay enough money you will get a guy who will walk into multiple national championships.

The goal of this new hire should be to get someone who wins the East once every 2 to 3 years. National Championship aspirations, while the ultimate goal, are comical considering where we've been for 20 years.

National championship aspirations aren't comical at all. That's the goal. Not to say you fire a guy that wins 10-11 a year but not a NC, but that should always be the ultimate goal.

Agree about winning the east every 2-3 years.

We aren't as far from returning to elite status as some of y'all think. We just haven't made the right HC hires the past decade. We will see if the hire is right this time.

He can coach as well. The ceiling hire is Taggert

Taggart coaches to the team he has and doesn’t try and fit the square peg in the round hole like Butch. He may not be able to develop the QB like Mullen, but he is a good coach and 10x the recruiter.

That’s pretty much all head coaches. They will take over recruitment for some key guys. (Kirby took over Cade Mays recruitment). If you look at the NFL players he has put in the league that means way more to me than average recruiting ranking.

Do you think we still can get Cade if we get the right coach, or is he gon?

Chris Petersen is a clear NC caliber coach IMO, but I don’t think he is in play.

Exactly. First year.

He's coaching up 3-4 stars because he has to. Nobody is gonna sign elite talent at Miss. State.

Gruden isn't coaching, Mullen and Frost are at lower tier jobs. Right now I think those 3 are who we target.
