Never recruited. Never been a college head coach.

It’s hope that he would be elite. Might be well founded hope, but hope it is.

Do you not understand that his name alone will recruit for at least a couple of years? Plus, there is no doubt in my mind that he would hire a rockstar staff, who will do a lot of the legwork on the recruiting trail for him.

He’s about to win 9 regular season at Mississippi State with chance at 10 with bowl win.

In the West

10-11 wins here gets you in the conversation.

Y’all crazy

Gruden isn't coaching, Mullen and Frost are at lower tier jobs. Right now I think those 3 are who we target.

Of our rumored candidates,.. who do you think is most likely to win a natty?

Imo none of the realistic options, not named Gruden, most of the coaches on the list I think will cap out at 10-11 wins on a good year and consistently win 8-9

That 10 or 11 includes a bowl win

That’s fine and dandy but that’s what you are hoping. I would hope he does the same.

He’s never done it before though.

Great question. People are skewed by Saban to think that if you pay enough money you will get a guy who will walk into multiple national championships.

The goal of this new hire should be to get someone who wins the East once every 2 to 3 years. National Championship aspirations, while the ultimate goal, are comical considering where we've been for 20 years.

Not just hope...I fully expect that to happen. 17 and 18 year olds are easily swayed and influenced. Gruden flashes that big Super Bowl ring and shows his plan to win championships at TN, and he will have kids falling over each other to play for him.

I don't think there is a candidate out there that would win a NC except for Gruden, frankly. If Kelly said yes, then maybe him, possibly. The reason I say Gruden is because from the rumors it seems like he has a complete management plan in place. You don't out coach your way to a national championship these days, and talent is only a (very big, very important) piece to the puzzle. You have to build a machine. I haven't seen recognition of that out of the other candidates. Doesn't mean it's not there, but JMO.

The fact that many are poo pooing a Mullen hire tells me we are in much better shape this go around.

Y’all would have begged for him when Troy Calhoun was being mentioned in 2012

I, by no means, think Gruden will happen still, but he would give us our best shot.

Agreed. But, again, we need to be able to have two separate conversations. Comparing Mullen and Taggart to Gruden is a waste of time. He is clearly better and the expectations change drastically if he is hired.

The debate FOR Mullen and Taggart is if Gruden turns us down. That's the only way they become options.

No. I think he’s had time to show his ceiling

Which is exactly why I would rather get someone a bit green, but could possibly ascend there

Shown his ceiling at Miss St not his ceiling as a coach. You would be saying same thing about Franklin if he stayed at Vandy this whole time. There is a big difference between coaching at Ms St and Vandy than tN and penn st. Nobody knew Butch could recruit like he did befute he got here.
