Solutions

1. hire Jon gruden
2. Lock down Trevor/Fields/Martinez as your future QB
3. Lock in Mays/Carvin on OL and steal Davis from bama
4. Move Richmond to G or C. Then set your OL as Tatum/Smith/Richmond/Mays/Hall
5. Move Kongbo to DT
6. Move Abernathy and Byrd to CB

You don’t put Trey Smith at Guard.

People need to understand there are two coaching searches going on right now.

On one side we are negotiating with Gruden.

On the other side we are betting possible alternatives.

It's like you guys can't have competing thoughts. The "just go get Gruden!" posts are a waste of time when discussing Taggart, Mullen and others. This coaching search runs through Chucky, and if we're in a position to talk about others, it's because he has turned us down.

I agree that you can't put all your eggs in one basket. But I think the names that are being thrown out are way below what this program needs. With the money that's being suggested, we should be able to go get an established, power 5 coach. Maybe even an NFL coach. Don't ask me who but it should be a pretty dang good coach. Frost, Taggart, Norvell or whatever hot name up and comer you want to throw out, may be the next urban, or Saban or dabo. But they could also end up being the next Dooley or Butch. This program is not in a position to risk hiring another up and comer. We need an established, seasoned coach.

Mullen over anyone not named Gruden.

& My bad on the JG tweet, should have checked the date. Just seen it pop up and assumed.

This is exactly whats happening.

We've already gauged interest with Frost, Mullen, Taggart, Morris.

Decent article about UF's search which overlaps ours outside of Gruden.

Checking in on Florida's rumored coaching candidates and how they fared this weekend

This is the excerpt on Taggart, and it does commend his recruiting but ranks him overall as a lower candidate.

Oregon coach Willie Taggart

Result: 38-3 loss at Washington

Impact: Ugh. Washington is really good at 8-1, but the Ducks weren’t even competitive in this game and they’re now 5-5. Taggart’s presumed appeal to Florida are his recruiting ties, having grown up in Florida and spending four seasons as the head coach at South Florida. But it would seem a hard sell to hire a coach who is pushing .500 (2-5 in conference) in his first season at Oregon.

Thoughts: Again, if Stricklin is prioritizing Florida recruiting ties than Taggart makes some sense. And he was impressive at South Florida, improving the Bulls’ win totals from 2 to 4 to 8 to 10 during his four seasons. But his career record as a head coach, including three seasons at Western Kentucky, is 45-50. If Florida were to hire him, there would be fans who think the recruiting ties matter most, but there would be many others wondering why the Gators settled for a coach with a losing career record and only one season so far with more than 8 wins.

Taggart’s counterpart Saturday, Washington coach Chris Peterson, would be a nice get for the Gators, who reportedly considered hiring him in 2010 before choosing Will Muschamp and later Jim McElwain. But it’s not clear if Peterson would have any interest in leaving what he’s built at Washington. His Huskies reached the College Football Playoff last season and don’t seem to be slowing down.

Mullen was on the original search firm list, he is the least risky hire, and there are rumors of interest.

We expect all those assistants to follow Taggart back across the country? That's hard to fathom but I guess they'd have to move on anyway.

Mullen at least knows the ropes in this conference. I don't think we would win the SEC with him. I'm a little worried about some NCAA baggage with him.

I could see winning the east with Mullen. Not sure anyone wins SEC until Saban retires. Our issue is playing Bama twice.
