Cant believe all the love for Taggart. Yes I know the injury situation he has right now, but still hasnt really proved anything.

He built the WKU program that got Petrino the Louisville job and Brohm the Purdue job. He built the USC program Strong had in the Top 25 this year.

He's a GREAT coach.

If Taggart is the floor we're in an incredible spot, really.

I wonder why he'd want out of Oregon so soon? He may be annoyed by the whispers in the fanbase that they want Chip back. And he's always coached in the South and the Northwest may be a bit different.

Tennessee is a whole other level than Oregon. Easy choice.

He’d recruit extremely well but otherwise I’d be cautious about him. Not sure I’ve seen enough to say he could build a sustainable program. But we will see.

He's build up two crap teams into sustained programs.

That Oregon team he took over was 4-8 last year and he lost his starting QB early.

Changing the subject a bit, what do you all see as the 2 biggest things on each side of the ball the next coach has to straighten out for us to be competitive in 2018? I’m considering S&C to be a given. But other than that:

Offense

1. OL. Gotta get tougher and more disciplined in the trenches. Also need to get Mays back on board if possible. He’ll have a chance to make a Trey Smith like impact for us.

2. WR. We’ve had way too much trouble with guys being able to consistently be where they need to be, getting open, and making the catch. If I’m the new coach, I try to find out if I can get JJ to come back if possible (no idea if there’d be some sort of issue with the rest of the team regarding him ghosting or not).

Defense

1. DB. We’ve been surprisingly solid here this year, but we’ll be losing Wiggins, Moseley, Martin, and likely Gaulden going into 2018. Gotta make sure we can keep the young guys we have on campus around and bring in plenty of young guys (EEs, if possible) to compete here.

2. DL. Most of these guys should be coming back next year. Should. Gotta make sure you keep around as many as possible and more importantly, get them to play to their potential. We’ve seen flashes from DT and Phillips this year, but we’ve gotta get the interior guys to play more dominantly as well if we’re gonna give the young DBs a chance to get settled. Bringing along Butler and Johnson at DE needs to be a priority also. Hopefully they can get Kongbo to realize he’s a 3 technique DT as well.

Edit: also, gotta replace Daniels at Punter. Sneakily big hole in the team potentially.

Is there ANY chance Boulware is still going to class and could work out something to stay? If we get Cade, do you put him at LG next to Trey?

Smith, Mays, Locklear/Johnson, Hall, Tatum

DB could be a problem.

The problem I have is his experence. The Sec chews up and spits out coaches like it's nothing. We hire a coach like Taggart or frost, we'll be back here again in 4 or 5 years.

Frost will kill it wherever he goes. The dudes doesn't know/accept failure look at his resume.

Taggart isn't my fave. I love his staff and recruiting ability. He surrounds himself with damn good coaches making him look better.

Whaaaat? He might not bring UT to championship level. I have no idea. Nobody does. But he has proven quite a bit.

He has taken over terrible teams. Western Kentucky was 0-12 the year before he got there and had like a 26 game losing streak. South Florida was 3-9 and Oregon was 4-8. He got USF to 11 wins in just a few years. He has Oregon with the 6th ranked recruiting class and 1st in the Pac 12. He's got 5 players from FL committed there.

There's no guarantees. I want a coach that's done it at this level.

I probably would as well. I haven't kept up with Taggart that close. His rep is recruiting and in this league that is important. But just not familiar enough with him

Our next coach needs to be a top notch recruiter. But not finishing an average of 7th in the SEC over 5 years. That will not get you competing with Alabama and Georgia. Our next coach needs to recruit # 1, 2 or 3 in this conference. and 3rd better not be 12th nationally. Better be top 5 because that is where Alabama and Georgia will be.

IMO, that is the most important trait the coach should have.

If we could have all those guys on campus and healthy, I think we could get decent play out of that group at OL, if they’re well coached. Tatum has gotta get bigger and stronger though. Hopefully Niehaus can compete at OT somewhere. I kinda think Richmond could be a better fit at OG potentially.

The good thing about DB is that our starting safeties should be able to help out the CBs a bit. But guys like Shamburger, Osborne, Labruzza, and maybe a freshman or two are gonna have to step up big time there.

And i can’t believe that UGA is doing all of this with a new coach and a freshman QB they weren’t even planning on playing.

That team speed tho...

Speed kills and UGA is playing fast. Biggest compliment to them is how quickly they got their players executing their scheme.
