Would be a great consolation prize.

So we are ok with hiring a guy with a 45-50 record overall. Might as well keep what we have. No way this should be ok. May be what we end up with and if so I hope he wins them all, but would like to think we could do better.

Unfortunately this will be the comments from those that don't watch football outside of SEC. he is down to his 3rd string QB. They were starting to play at high level before the QB was injured

He has done a good job this year. Their S&C program was awful when he got there, tons of injuries this year, and he is still going to get them to a bowl after they were dreadful last year.

Cant believe all the love for Taggart. Yes I know the injury situation he has right now, but still hasnt really proved anything.

Taggart is getting dominated in the PAC 12.

QB issues. He's also trying to build an entire team that's a complete 180 from the finesse team Helfrich built there. I knew he'd take some lumps his first year - and I imagine he would here too.

He is only second to Saban in terms of recruiting from the head coaching position. We would win championships with him here.

He’s definitely lost some of his shine because of this year. But Oregon had fallen off a lot when he got there. They were never going to be that good of a team this year. He’s done pretty well recruiting there thus far though.

I think Taggart is a good coach, but I don’t think he’s a guy who will come in and turn things around immediately. It’s taken him a little time to get things going everywhere he’s been so far (granted, only 2 other jobs).

I'm not as impressed with taggert as I am his ability to surround himself with dang good coaches and recruiters. It makes him more attractive to me.

The problem I have is his experence. The Sec chews up and spits out coaches like it's nothing. We hire a coach like Taggart or frost, we'll be back here again in 4 or 5 years.

Like someone else said though if Taggart is your floor your in a great spot... pretty sure this is why the John Harbaugh rumors came up. He was calling to vouch for Taggart not about this job himself. Harbaughs swear by Willie T

Changing the subject a bit, what do you all see as the 2 biggest things on each side of the ball the next coach has to straighten out for us to be competitive in 2018? I’m considering S&C to be a given. But other than that:

Offense

1. OL. Gotta get tougher and more disciplined in the trenches. Also need to get Mays back on board if possible. He’ll have a chance to make a Trey Smith like impact for us.

2. WR. We’ve had way too much trouble with guys being able to consistently be where they need to be, getting open, and making the catch. If I’m the new coach, I try to find out if I can get JJ to come back if possible (no idea if there’d be some sort of issue with the rest of the team regarding him ghosting or not).

Defense

1. DB. We’ve been surprisingly solid here this year, but we’ll be losing Wiggins, Moseley, Martin, and likely Gaulden going into 2018. Gotta make sure we can keep the young guys we have on campus around and bring in plenty of young guys (EEs, if possible) to compete here.

2. DL. Most of these guys should be coming back next year. Should. Gotta make sure you keep around as many as possible and more importantly, get them to play to their potential. We’ve seen flashes from DT and Phillips this year, but we’ve gotta get the interior guys to play more dominantly as well if we’re gonna give the young DBs a chance to get settled. Bringing along Butler and Johnson at DE needs to be a priority also. Hopefully they can get Kongbo to realize he’s a 3 technique DT as well.

Edit: also, gotta replace Daniels at Punter. Sneakily big hole in the team potentially.

Mine is a lot simpler. Adapt to the personell and have a plan that includes contingencies for injury and getting backups meaningful reps.
