The school didn't pull Mayes offer. He's gone. If he loved the school so much, why is he going elsewhere? Are you saying he's backing away because of Butch being the coach? Everyone knows Butch won't be here next year so I can't buy that argument. So we are back to square one. We keep jones the rest of the year or we fire him now....doesn't matter. We won't be signing and announcing a new coach until seasons end at the earliest. Might not even be done until the guys bowl game is over. Oh wait....Gruden and Kelly. You hanging your hat on one of those? Guess you got me there....wait....they still haven't jumped at the UT job? Confusing isn't it?

New coach will be named before the end of November, Gruden or not. Cade will have plenty of chances to change his mind. He doesn't need an official visit. He probably is like the rest of us and doesn't have the confidence the UTAD will do anything special with this hire. Now the question is, does he give the new staff a chance to convince him? Who knows? But the rumor of Cade having a rift with some of the current players, they may not be able to repair it. Like I said earlier, one kid does not make a class and you definitely don't rush into a hire to appease a few recruits. We saw how that worked when we rushed to hire Dooley because of the impending signing day.

Damn...Butch is going to lose the states top recruit 2 years in a row. Pathetic!!!

On a different note, some friends of mine who follow HS football pretty well in East Tennessee say Mays is overrated. This was told to me about a month ago. Says he holds a lot and the competition he plays on makes him look better...Just relaying info from a couple of local people involved in the HS football scene throughout Knox Co., Blount Co and Sevier Co and occasionally Greene co

He very well may. A lot of kids will be drawn to him on name alone. Also, don't think Gruden would come here without the means to bring in an all star staff. If he comes I'm willing to bet it will be one of the top two or three paid staffs in college football. I would also bet some NFL coaches will be sprinkled in as well.

WHat if he brings a NFL line coach with him?

Hire Gruden and I do not even worry about Cade. We will get what we need. He can be a part of it or not. Would rather have Gruden and no Cade May than the other way around. Will be sweet to see a Gruden led Tennessee team beating Georgia and Clemson and the Mays wondering what might have been.

That's exactly the way I feel about it. If Gruden comes, get on the F'n bus or GTF out of the way. They'll be plenty of big time O-lineman that will want to be coached by maybe the best staff in the country. I would fully expect that to be the case.

I've seen so many 5 star "we just can't lose this guy" players the fans went nuts over. Seems like for every Trey Smith we get three who don't live up to the hype. Don't really care about our recruiting class right now. Just meaningless until we get a coaching staff that knows what to do with them.

Just keeps getting worse.

Hire somebody and reel this big fish back in. Clemson has their claws in him.

I wouldn't play for Jones either, but he isn't going to have to. How many think he will be with us under a new coach?

Can you imagine an O line with him and Trey Smith on, ouch. I would think it's going to take a big time hire to get this kid back. Let's just pray him de-committing doesn't cause a ripple effect with this recruiting class

The UT AD is to blame for all of this, dating back to 2009. And hopefully, Currie will change our fortunes. However, I have seen nothing so far that indicates he will be any better than Hamilton or Hart.

Tennessee should have NEVER sunk this low. NEVER. But brain dead AD's, the idiotic boosters and a lackluster administration has turned a once great football program into an absolute travesty.

Whats wrong with fans who want a big name coach? Why would Mays not want to play in front of our fans? has he said anything about the fans? Because he sure has talked about winning big and playing for championships.

Honestly, I would not play for Butch either. Good person, horrible coach. In fact, if they dont fire him I will not be renewing my 4 tix in Sec. T. I'm done. That's all I can do. My name is not Haslam, Anderson, Currie etc... I'm a nobody, but I'm tired of being played to the tune of $6k a year. Done.

Could be becuase he doesnt know who the coach will be. Several people have cited the fact that he attenda school with CBJs son and doesnt like the way CBJ has been treated.
