Unless they don’t care. Fans keep showing up and giving them money. So why should they care?

Come on, Bass, you are flailing. There is waaaay too much evidence that people who matter are working to spend a lot of money on a good coach. There is no way we are holding on to Butch. Of course he is trying to save his job. Of course Currie is saying, sure, that's a good plan. But come 11/25, Currie is going to say, "Thank you Butch for all your hard work. Best of luck in your future endeavors."

And we are going to say good bye to an ugly era of Tennessee football.

We have changed coaches under Butch on both offense and Defense. The players are undeveloped, there are an insane number of injuries, the game day play calling has been questionable.

There has been one constant in all this-- Butch Jones.

We have seen all we need to see.

I guess Sexton cant find a single job for Butch so now he is begging to stay. Shouldve done a better job. 5 years and about to have a losing streak vs literally every other SEC team. Its over.

If that report Basilio made is true, which I doubt, Butch wants to be back next year because he's found out there won't be any suitors for him after this year.

I'll try to paraphrase from a post I saw elsewhere. (Gruden thread maybe).

Basically Hubbs said Jones was calling around to a few boosters saying injuries limited the team and sort of pitching making changes.

Said nothing about gaining any traction with that at all and really seemed to shrug it off.

Which likely means that no agreement has been reached on a negotiated buyout. Which isn't that big of a deal either way, but if true, Id say it's evidence Butch gets the full amount.

over time, I've begun to be ok with waiting until the end of the season. The hire matters. Firing Butch two weeks ago vs. after Vandy does not show incompetence in either setting. All the AD has to do to debunk this incompetence title is make a splash hire. Thats too easy of a task to discredit that. Therefore, i am not willing to say they are incompetent, at this point. jmo on that.

As Kress said, we are watching TN football die right in front of us.

And he people in charge are doing what? No statements, no action, as far as we no, they are doing nothing. Saying nothing and doing nothing is causing even more harm because of the fan unrest. Empty Neyland wouldn’t have been a thing had they just said something or done something. Their inaction is looking more and more like incompetence every day. Incompetence or indifference. Which one?

What if there is a third option? Maybe this is a false dichotomy. Maybe Currie is trying to display a level of stability and professionalism that we can't appreciate.

Nobody is going to pay him $4 million.

There's not a job open right now he could get. Of course he hasn't found a spot and he definitely can't get one making what he makes here.

He wants to keep coaching and making money. None of this should be surprising.

This is a very long piece but for anyone truly interested in a detailed behind the curtains view it is well worth the read.

From day 24 of Mal Moore's search:

38 Days: How Alabama Pulled off the Great Heist of Nick Saban

38 Days: How Alabama Pulled off the Great Heist of Nick Saban

From that article:
-----
Technically, Saban never spoke to Alabama directly until Day 36 of the search, the night of Jan. 2 when Mal Moore was in his living room.
-----

Without quoting more of it, the go between Mal used was his nephew Chuck who had met Saban and become friends with him years prior when he sold him property in Georgia just after Saban had been hired at LSU. Mal swore Chuck to absolute secrecy (couldn't even talk to his own dad about it) and he faithfully relayed all messages, paperwork and was basically Mal's surrogate, although one with far more access than Mal would've had as an AD.

Does Currie have anyone like that with a pre-existing relationship to Gruden? It would seem all but impossible not to find someone that could act in that fashion given that Gruden is already connected to the program but at the same time it could be very hard to find someone who could do so AND keep their mouth shut.

Kudos on the xanax sandwich gif. I loled.

Yea, we simply just have to let it play out. Have to be patient. It will either be genius or incompetence.

Why not?

This is just my take on that and maybe I'm missing something.....

I've never understood the thought of CBJ sitting down with Currie and negotiating to take less.

If he wants the full amount all he has to do is say "fire me. I'm not negotiating."

I bet they let him go after Saturday. Probably been the plan all along to do it after the last away game.

I think it's all academic anyway, but what coaches worth their salt are going to come here if he was theoretically retained? None, unless there are massive buyouts I'm sure- leading to more financial risk. I'm sure it is falling on deaf ears.

I don't have an account on TOS site but claims Hubbs has backed up Tony on this.

Can anyone share?

I am not into conspiracy theories but Hubbs does control the message. LWS did say that if Gruden was possible, he wants nothing out. Just be careful with what you hear.

I agree, it always seemed like a long shot that that was an option. I think the only plausible circumstance would have been that he wanted out so bad earlier in the season but didn't want to walk away with nothing. Now that he's here with only a couple of games left, I don't think it worked out like that.

He'd rather get fired, walk away with a check, sit a year, and sell himself after the dust settles.

He doesn't want to deal with it anymore.

Kamara is a rookie superstar in the NFL. Dobbs and Peterman both make NFL teams. Ferguson lighting it up at Memphis. Malone doing well as a receiver in NFL. Barnett and Reeves Maybin turning heads. Cam Sutton-- Chance Hall, Jalen Hurd...

How can you have a team like this and not at least win the East?

Today I have reached the point where I hate Butch even more than Dooley. Can't explain it but I just wish he would take his money and leave. I know he is gone but him being here is hurting more than helping. I would rather get blown out these next three games with him gone than to have to see his stupid purple face on the sideline. He is pathetic. He has stayed long enough for me to hate him.
