From your list... not saying I would hire him but if Durkin doesn't lose his top 2 QBs he is probably having a great season and on way to being high on several coaching lists. He is recruiting very well at Maryland and has a very good staff. He has the OC in Walt Bell and he has extensive SEC and Big gam experience as a DC

He checks off a lot of boxes for me but like you said he's probably not going to turn in a record that will have people coming after him this winter.

I think a lot of it is that he just doesn't play the right players and/or plays most of his guys too much and doesn't give others a chance. Weird use of personnel.

Pretty big “just, IMO. Especially since the thing he was supposed be best at is recruiting and evaluating talent.

But he’s also really bad at game management at times and has been seriously lacking with in game adjustments.

The fact that they traveled with just 5-6 OL and didn’t have a contingency plan is just another indicator of how incompetent Butch and the offensive staff he’s surrounded himself with are.

A lot of people here are still really underrating how bad of a coach Butch is because they bought into his snake oil so hard. Once th next coach shows up, it will become a lot more clear. We could end up with our 10th choice and it will be a big upgrade.

We had a coach 10 years ago that had to use 2 walk on offense lineman. That line was far superior to anything Butch has put out there.

According to rivals, these are the states which supplied our blue chip recruits:

My thinking is if we're going to recruit nationally it would probably be better if we had a high profile national personality doing the recruiting.

Butch's recruiting sort of took a bit of a hit as the legacy pool got smaller and his reputation for comedic gold took off.

Wonder what Clemson's chart looks like?

If Tennessee is going to win big we've got to get back into Georgia. There's way more recruits in there than Georgia can keep. Gotta start winning some battles there.

We are going to lose Saturday and it will be Butch's last memory. Book it.

We have not lost to a G5 team since Fulmer's loss to Wyoming. Kiffin was 3-0, Dooley was 9-0, Butch is 14-0. We have a 26 game winning streak on the line so I guess you're riight, we're going to lose. Darn.

So we only 6 OL for Saturday if Richmond can't go. Wonder if Boulware is kicking himself for leaving midseason?

Smith - Robertson - Thomas - Johnson - Brooks

Locklear may have to play and lose his RS.

Who's your emergency guy if needed? Walkons like Keeler or Garvey? Does Ethan Wolf become an emergency RT? Can Paul Bain save us?

I think our next HC is one of those 15 names.

Work with an ISU grad. Mentioned that teams would be coming after their coach and he got mad. Didn't think they could keep him if someone wanted him bad enough to pay the buy out.

It’s gotta be hell. My nephew is married to an Illini grad and is a bigger fan than her or his brother who’s also an alumnus. Real tuned in and preached to me for Taggart to be hired after Dooley. :pinch: Apparently Campbell was a big want by their fans when they went with Tim Beckman. I consoled him by telling him how tortured the Fighting Illini would be waiting for someone to snatch him up...he didn’t respond well. :)

Taggert, Fuente, Patterson or Mullen? And Fuente & Patterson are probably not true options. Not too excited about the others, but that's just me.

I think this is why so many are excited/intrigued by Frost. The upside seems to outweigh the risk.

In the eyes of fans it may, but I don't think it will for the decision makers. They know they can't get this one wrong, so they have to take the surest thing they can get.

Plus, I think Frost becomes moot when he goes to Nebraska or Florida. I can't imagine we are higher on HIS list than 3rd behind those two.

So a combination of us not at the top of his list, and our AD wanting less risk in the hire means Frost isn't coming to The Hill. JMO.

If I am Currie and Gruden officially is done with giving me blue balls, I'm doing everything in my power to make sure I get one of Frost/Taggart/Mullen. Assuming I don't have any shot at some other big experienced name we haven't heard.

I know a lot of folks are really caught up in the Scott Frost hysteria. He's certainly this year's Tom Herman. But I just don't believe the UTAD will take a risk on an unproven coach this go around. I saw yesterday where Doug Matthews made a comment that the next Vols coach will be a current sitting P5 HC.

I went through each conference and came up with a list as best I could of each current sitting P5 coach where by my estimation our chance of wanting him AND getting him is better than zero... It may still be an extreme long shot, but it's not zero (like a Peterson, Saban, Meyer, etc.)

I say Mullen, cause "natty".
