"Not only did Kendrick suffer a concussion Saturday night but so did Drew Richmond tonybasilio.com has learned."

Is there any Campbell to VOLS discussion? I think he'd be a better risk than Frost.

The article was certainly pro-UCF and the state of Florida's recruiting base is just about all they have to sell that is on par with the big schools. Admittedly however, it is a big selling point.

I mentioned this the other day and continue to feel this way...the Florida recruiting gold mine is being spread out more and more. Florida, FSU, Miami, UCF, USF and now FAU are all fighting over the same recruits, not to mention all the poaching that takes place from out-of-state schools including Tennessee.

I'd be curious to look at how many Florida 4* & 5* players in the next couple of classes compared to Tennessee 4* & 5*. We might find the Florida gold mine is being spread thinner and thinner while Tennessee will obviously not suffer from the same level of competition for talent. These figures will either support my argument to some degree or just provide further proof that I don't know what I'm talking about...haha!

Florida will continue to be #1 but your larger point is correct. Tennessee is producing more top level talent every year. However, I think it's unwise to assume it won't be spread just as thin as it is in Florida.

A good Tennessee football team will get the majority, sure, but Ole Miss will pick off some West TN guys, Vandy will get one or two, Alabama gets whomever they seriously push for, Georgia will get a handful, and Clemson has proven to have a Knoxville pipeline.

Says recruiting base is what could keep him at UCF longterm.

Well, UF has the same recruiting base and will double his pay.

Dammit.

You don’t lose that base if you leave the state. That’s why General Neyland invented airplanes. :)

Most of us knew that Wells was a great recruiter and a big ? as developer of talent. Butch has done a lot of that with coaches and players.

I agree. I mentioned something similar yesterday that whoever the coach is will have the budget and resources to recruit the state of Florida as heavy as they want to from UT. It won’t be as easy as being in Florida but he would also have a talent rich UGA a few hours away and an untapped potential of Tennessee kids.

Gruden 10% (really worth 10mill?)
Kelly <1% (mainly due to UT's lack of trying, #1 for me)
Stoops <5%
Patterson 20% (#2 for me)
Petersen 0% (no chance he comes to UT)

After that, you only up the Brinks truck halfway.

That list looks great... but my purely speculation chances on them...

Still playing catchup so sorry if this has been addressed:

Something we talked about the last couple off-season was the importance of coordinators and asst coaches. How is this going to work out with whatever coach we get, do they bring their whole staff or are we looking for a big coordinator hire as well? The coordinators will be just as important as the head coach I think...

9 mill buyout he's not leaving

Coach A has a 3 mil dollar buyout and will have to paid 6 mil a year. After 5 years we have spent 33 mil.

Coach Campbell has a 9 mil buyout but can be hired for 4.5mil a year which doubles his salary. After 5 years we spent 31.5 mil.

The buyout talk is foolish if we can hire him cheaper which I think we can.

Cost more BEFORE you even start paying HIM tho. Midwestern ties in recruiting will be a learning curve imo. Love the X’s and O’s portion and the energy but he has a Fleck/CBJ quantity when it comes to soundbites. Not “row the boat” or “5 star heart” level, but a few cans of corn have been opened on his watch. :)

Campbell will be at Iowa State next year.

The in-state advantage can't be overstated, however. Vanderbilt offers minimal competition and Memphis probably even less. Comparatively speaking, the out-of-state schools are going to poach at the same level be it Tennessee, Florida, Louisiana, Georgia, etc. But Tennessee will have a distinct advantage from an in-state perspective.

The question is whether there is a large enough pool talent.

If any of the Gruden financing was true, it’d be less than one year of that package and pay about half. Sounds like a Currie fallback option with the Midwestern roots.
