Official Jon Gruden Thread XXVI

I have to keep reminding myself when I read this thread that not everyone believes what I believe (I think all parties are in favor, but could chg with the flip of a switch as someone said yesterday). Having said that I'm more interested in the timing aspect. I think whoever posted that it was originally supposed to be after this season is probably right. I'm curious what happened Sunday evening because on one hand I think maybe they wanted to wait on vote to restructure, yesterday I thought the Kendrick situation could've made Currie suddenly put the brakes on, & I think some think it was Haslam. I know I'm a salmon swimming upstream, but I'm not convinced Big Jim Haslam is a bad guy in this.
The Kendrick reason makes the most sense to me, BUT doesn't seem logical that CBJ would do that if he had already agreed to a buyout.

As the reporter that broke it said in a tweet, CBJ has a problem keeping personal in line or something to that affect. CBJ may not have even known, but this falls back on him.

I’m gonna go out on a limb and say this might be the reason for the supposed verbal altercation between Jones and Currie yesterday.

I agree. Swain’s co host was talking about this could be used to fire him with cause, and Swain laughed and said, this is one of many things they could have fired him with cause for over the years.

Someone just called and asked him about the blowup with Currie and Jones. Swain said he heard it from several people.

Grude morning, ghosts and goblins. We had a great night collecting fun size candies of all sorts over here last night. Major props to those that give out the full size treats, btw. My kids think you hung the moon and know exactly where you live. Went to bed pretty optimistic about our chances of a certain coach being let go today based on the evening chatter here/Twitter. Have to head to carpool but will be back later to catch up an then a little later, for my daily meltdown. :D I don't mind owning it. Hope everyone has a Grude one! Soon?
PS- Enjoyed your essay, Hawk! Well done.

Yea. He’s the caretaker of Tennessee football! Kendrick got hurt in the 1st qtr. How in the world did he at least didn’t know at halftime?

I've been listening to Mike and Mike on ESPN radio on my morning commute for years. As long as I can remember, they've had Gruden on EVERY Wednesday at 7:00 during football season via phone. Today, he wasn't on. They didn't offer any explanation of his absence, didn't say the name "Gruden"...NOTHING. This is very odd, as normally when one of their regular segments are missing or even rescheduled, they mention it SEVERAL times.

Same here. I listen to them every morning and have even had my request played for "Grudens Groove". Magic Power by Triumph. His comment was "one I'd forgotten about". Was actually looking forward to it this morning.

Hmmmm.

For those that missed Hawk's excellent post last night around 10:30pm:

Alright everyone, my theory. Again I'll start with I AM NOT AN INSIDER. I am everything I said I was when I showed up. I have told zero lies and given zero misinformation intentionally. I have always stated they were assumptions based on crumbs on these threads. It's going to be long too..sorry.

This all started 5 years ago when Butch was hired. Haslam cut the rest of the boosters off at the knees by agreeing to sign Butch even after him and other candidates were told not to sign. The reason they were told is because Gruden was ready to sign, however, the previous administration refused to let the HC have that much control and authority causing this downward spiral to continue.

Now current day. Those boosters who were railroaded have been planning to replace Butch with Gruden ever since then. They saw the problems before and have worked to try and get the right people into the right positions in the administration to get that passed, and change the culture. Those boosters have currently been working, as some of us have predicted, for a long time to have things relatively in place for when the time came, and now it's here. They already knew Gruden was interested and have done their homework on what contractually needed to be done to release him from other obligations. Knowing that no one concedes power easily they have orchestrated this media, social media, and even the offshore lines, to bend the way it needs to. In addition to telling the AA they will withhold donations (pocket aces). What happened after the odds dropped after Beaver predicted it. Everyone paid attention because it was predicted. Leaking the 10m dollar contract info, all of it planned. They waged an information campaign. Again as I stated earlier, wars are won with overwhelming firepower and intelligence, but I left off information. This plan was crafted as a shock an awe to release everything in a short time frame to cause immediate backlash to the admin. at UT. There are numerous posters even in here who are planted to drop breadcrumbs. You just have to sort the fact from fiction and that from all the BS'in around. GV keep up your report!

I expect Butch's buyout was being worked or done after USCjr. Everyone knew Butch would lose to Alabama so why put an interim through that. I expect there is friction with the assistant coaches and that led to him staying for KY. Plus a win and they could allow him to continue finding somewhere to go, but the deal was done, he was set to be released at some point in time. As I hear on the radio, the HIRE IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE FIRE. So no rush. Hope for the best and plan for the worse. I'm sure he was suppose to be fired Sunday night then one of two things happened. Haslam had cold feet (explained later), or word got around about Kendrick. Remember this was an away game and everyone got home late. It could have taken a while on Sunday before the AD heard about it and called it off. Why call it off? Simple, FIRED WITH CAUSE, no buyout. That puts Jones where he's at now, at the mercy of Currie if it's proven true, or paid with a reduced buyout when he lands at S. AL.

On to our guy, the G man, Gruden. Everyone comes in here and trolls and calls us crazy. What they don't see is what I've already stated. Finish where you started, keep your family happy, and quite possibly he was out of a job at the end of the year. I told my wife Gru is a CPT without a ship. He's a coach, the booth didn't stop that burning desire to coach. IMO he's coming. The people who have been planning this are big $$ people with a lot of time to plan and a lot of resources to throw at it. Plus they hold the Aces, $$$$.

Now why hasn't it happened. As was stated by another poster Haslam either backed out or is causing an issue as of 48hrs ago. Why the big deal with the time? That's probably when he heard Davenport was not going to outsource the University. This ACCEPTANCE would have been financially beneficial to him since he is connected to the company the contract would go to. Who recommended that company? That company is already contracted for state agencies by his brother, the Governor. However, the University has the option to opt out. Corker's name was brought up. Corker was Haslam's roommate in college and not running for reelection, but possibly for the Presidency. It's obvious him and the current one don't get along. If Corker decides to run for President, Haslam will be helping them finance the campaign.

So here we are again. The Haslam's are holding things up over either money or now a grudge. I have no idea how PM or the VC in silicon valley play in. Obviously PM is a facilitator and has many things he can offer to help it go through. As far as the KH effect with him, it could be a few things that I can't predict without reading a contract. Scarabbeans....it was said to thank the Beans. Well they're obviously a secret society at UT composed of both Athletes and Academics of the highest regard. So they're your counsel. If they like it they can sell it to both sides and help it go through. The VC, no idea. There are some ways it can help finance the academic side with entrepreneurs and others for profit endeavors.

Again..All my opinion and your tax dollars (been on VN during work).

Well ya'll, hopefully someone comes in and validates or discredits all this. I'm impartial either way. I want Gruden but this has been great for my mind. Hopefully this all happens soon so my wife can have me back. Again, I'm moving to E. TN and can't wait to meet some of ya'll in person. I'll be at the Vandy game thanks to Atlanta Vol so maybe I'll see some of you there. To Vol Nation...I love ya'll, and SOON!

Shameless plug. I'm retiring soon and may need a job.

Edit: Betting line movements were predicted to move based on the current status of the coaching search. They were in no way manipulated.

Edit: Boosters weren't on the same page with the Currie hire.

Edit: VC used to help sweeten the deal of UT becoming a top 25 research school. VC used to fund IP research in PHD programs

Yeah and Gruden was 100% done deal and Butch was 100% gone.

It could be true. I just doubt it at this point. We will keep CBJ til the seasons end, no point in having an interim for 3 games

All 3 are true. And if Brad Shepard is saying it then it's not BS..and no Butch will not be here till seasons end. Not now.

So whoever said something happened last night on VQ was obviously full of it. No way it wouldn’t have been leaked out already if it did.

Did you listen to the drive yesterday? Toward the end of the show, it seemed to me Russell was alluding to something but quickly changed the subject.

I got the sense he wanted to put out some info but stopped short.

God bless them.

I wanted to follow up but not quote your response, and this seemed very appropriate, lol. You have been a guiding light for me through this, you were always a step ahead showing the way and I thank you. Sometimes walking in tall grass it can get hard to stay on the right track.

Your assessment and the points made I completely agree with. I'm not a billionaire but my wife and I thank the lord everyday for where we've ended up, it's a lot further than were we started.

I to feel like the tweet was a signal. I'll probably start checking in here a few times a day and see how everyone's doing. I feel like this mission is far enough along that barring any kind of ambush it is done. I feel like the enemy is weak and on the run, now is the time to take and hold their ground, and to reinforce the perimeter.

The forces who have put this together are Special. They have my utmost respect and support. If they ever need anything my services are at their disposal. As I stated before, like many others UT is more than just a school to myself and my family.

God Bless You, God Bless Vol Nation, and God Bless The Great State of Tennessee.
