Football has changed the power at major institutions. The coach makes $4-5M, AD makes $1+M and the school president makes $300-400k. Some people have a problem with that. Those same people have all the more issue when you want to pay the coach $7+M.

The last thing I'll add is that Currie is a very smart guy. He knows what he's doing, and he sees the big picture much better than you or I do. Give the man a chance to do his job. If he screws it up and we end up with Freddie McGoogle, then by all means, complain away. But don't write him off yet. He's working hard behind the scenes.

For those curious about the BOT meetings.

The purpose of the Athletics Committee shall be to review the operation of the University’s intercollegiate athletics programs and assist the Board in carrying out its responsibility for oversight of those programs.

While retaining its ultimate responsibility for oversight of the University’s intercollegiate athletics programs, the Board has delegated direct responsibility for administration and control of the intercollegiate athletics programs to the Chancellor of each campus with an intercollegiate athletics program. The Board has also charged the President with general administrative oversight of the intercollegiate athletics programs and with holding the Chancellors accountable for their performance with respect to the intercollegiate athletics programs.

Damn. Not that I had much hope outside of ATL, but I was absolutely loving the troll job that Beaver was pulling off regardless.

Seems the scotch got to him once he got on twitter though and he couldn't make it till the end.

I'm on page 244 catching up. This is my belief unless it is EXTREMELY recent.

Taking a while. Have to validate theories enroute to the end of this thread and check twitter occasionally. I found something last night that previous google searches were coming up blind. Finally hit it. Internet is your friend.

You have too many people willing to continue to head to the hill each Saturday for the social event aspect of it. Having a competitive team on the field is secondary and not very important to them. This was my point in an earlier post where RockyTopSC said those pulling the strings understand how we feel. They may see and hear it, but don't "understand" it in the same way because they have a pretty much captive audience and residual income for their product that they alone have power over and can control. Quality of product is secondary.

This tells me that Beaver has an agenda and there is no "Done Deal".

I'm calling BS on the whole thing regarding what Beaver has brought to this thread

I agree with this for the most part. The issue I have is that Currie hasn't done anything to warrant blind faith in him yet, and Florida's swift firing makes him look a bit inept.

I guess the flip side is that he hasn't given us a reason not to trust him. He did say he's the kind of guy who will take the heat from boosters and fans if it's in the best interest of the program. Waiting to fire butch and name a replacement may be in our best interest depending on what's going on behind the scenes.

I am in the Gruden would be great, but highly unlikely camp.

I’ve been reading different articles about University of Alabama and the changes they made 10 years ago. Hiring Saban and fielding a successful football team was definitely part of their long range plan to improve the academics. It seems like 10 years ago Tennessee made the decision that successful academics could be accomplished only by diminishing the influence of football.

I am hopeful that whatever discussions are going on between athletics, academics, boosters and board, that our University is finally making progress toward being successful in a synergistic manner, regardless of the name of the new HC.

I cannot say everything I want to but I am <1% at this point Gruden will be our next coach as badly as I would love to see it happen. I will not say why I am that low now. There is a straight up troll convention going on in this thread.

If that is what it has come to, the gamesmanship has shifted in a bad way.

I stopped donating to the University in 2001. When I graduated UT was the best value in America according to a few of the rankings. They bagan a downward spiral and thus, I was not going to contribute to that.

After the Jones hire I was not happy, and further validated continuing not to donate. I gave him the chance, he did most everything pretty well and respectable, minus winning.

If this hire is not someone who can immediately impact this football team in a very noticeable way I will not pass judgement, but, I will not make UT Football the most important thing in the fall.

The academic and administrative side, well, continues to be a very questionable investment and will hold off for another year at least.

However, my other alma mater Northwestern will continue to receive my money as it is an investment with perpetual forward return. My degrees from UT mean less than they did when I graduated, but, my M.B.A. from Kellogg will continue to have much value and warranted appreciation on my part in the donations to the school.

I want to give UT my money, badly, but, they continue to show it isn't a wise investment.

My confidence is half of what it was before these 2 posts. I'll continue to hold on to the thought that it's Gruden until it isn't, but, M***ER****** these 2 just hit home.
