Somehow I missed this..... If that is the case, my confidence level is rising.... the only thing that looms big remaining is Haslam .... that is all it could be

But why if all the other boosters and AD and AA side is all set to go, how would Haslam hold it up? Does he get a final yay or nay when it comes to hiring?

I just don't see how he, a lone gunman if you will, can hold it up if all the other pieces are in place, would seem to me that Currie would tell Haslam to f%&k off and side with everyone else, cause if it works out he'd be a made man and there wouldn't be much Haslam could do to harm him.

It'd be a gamble for sure but if it worked he'd be untouchable.

One other observation. The academic elitists might try to marginalize football, but they sure like dipping their hands into the revenue stream. So, there is a dilemma. Do they burn it down and kill the goose? Or help it lay even more golden eggs?

Seems like a no brainer to me. But, on the other hand, these academic types really aren't anywhere close to as smart as they think.

I think this is the standard scapegoat line AD's leak when they simply cannot get the big fish. Is there griping from the academic side? Sure. Does it really have any impact on the outcome? Don't be silly.

Here's one thing that really annoys me about this position, if in fact the Academic side is trying to force the issue: even the Ivies lower their academic qualifications for athletes. Now obviously at a different rate, but a top-recruit could have a 27 ACT and still have a decent shot even when the average is more around 31.

Edit: My point being, even elite academic institutions understand the value of healthy athletics and the need to bend rules to ensure it.

Morning thoughts:

1. The more I think about it, I am absolutely convinced that Butch was fired after the Georgia game. Why does a coach suddenly stop anything on social media after a bad loss? Why stop official visits?

2. There is still a slight glimmer of hope on the Gruden front. This morning, Larry said this:

I'm at 2% on Gruden. Just never thought it close to happening. He ends up following his head (doesn't like college coaching) rather than his heart (friendships and love for Tennessee). Heard this morning dead but I understand we have people that will continue to call him

If he is truly coming in this weekend, maybe he can be convinced to change his mind.

3. Try to go a little bit easer on Negagrudes that have a registration date of 2012 or earlier. Most of them are not trolls, are our Vol brothers and sisters, and were Grudenites the last go round. They got burned. Badly. A lot of folks in these threads right now could be Negagrudes on the next go round, including you.

4. The BOT meeting means nothing. It is merely a formality. Currie does not need their permission to fire or hire a coach.

Serenity of knowledge.

Amen! I have to go to this thing called work today. You would think that after retiring twice, my wife would let me stay at home but NO!!!! She thinks I'm a terrible housewife and needed to find another job! It's part time, 3-4 days a week usually.

Growing rumors that if Butch gets to a bowl game, he gets one more year??? It’s on every board that is what Currie supposedly told him.

No way, right? I don’t see it.

i really think its a done deal and he is gone, but they may let him reach the end of the year type of thing......for whatever reason i dont know, perhaps the good job he did cleaning the program up and bringing it back to decent standing, im not sure, but i dont know if he can save it cause i think its already been done, we shall see though

Very true. Think that is why they’re completely dismissing it?

If you can get a sports media person to be honest with you, they will tell you its all about access. They will not cross any line that jeopardizes their access. If they tell you any differently, they are lying.

and while JAV and LWS should be folks to pay attention to, there are at least 10? others that need to be watched also.....Bubba, MIT, AV, etc.....

Beaver and Bubba have no rep, why would anyone believe anything they say. I'll role with LWS/JAV/Atlanta/DTO/Boro/RockyTopSC/OV75. All of those have a proven track record.

Why are some people willing to believe 0%, but freak out when some one says 100%? It the same thing, an absolute.

If you have one group saying 100% the other saying 0% then logic would dictate the true answer is somewhere in between dependinging on where the negotiations are .

Interesting. The only thing I can think about the non-Gruden talk is if it isn't talked about maybe it will die down. Kind of like the kneeling protests, etc...where they don't show it on TV and don't talk about it during the broadcasts.

Obviously, the media isn't aware of the avalanche known as Volnation.com. :)

Before the season, I thought the only way Currie made a change is if he has his guy. I hope he does and UT doesn't fire Butch then post the opening on Indeed.com.

Sarcasm noted.

No, too much has been said about Gruden, in many places and by many people. I'm not buying it.

Even if it’s true, I wouldn’t worry about it. That fool isn’t making a bowl game. He’ll be lucky to beat Southern Miss and finish 4-8.
