Official Jon Gruden Thread XXV

Why would Hyams say that Gruden has 0% chance of coming? I know he is a mouthpiece for the university but if we had Gruden in the bag wouldn’t we want Knoxville media to be hyping him up as a possibility?

Why are some people willing to believe 0%, but freak out when some one says 100%? It the same thing, an absolute.

Love the analogy and I don't disagree at all from a FULL Gruden perspective, but maybe the percentage of people that runs true with is relatively small? Just playing devils advocate though.

I understand my friend. I'm sure a small percentage have doubts about his being successful here but I think that's a very small minority.

From what I understand Currie doesn't feed the BOTs approval.

I think someone said the Scarrabeans have a meeting this week.

Maybe that's the meeting everyone is referring to?

Yes, I believe this is the meeting that is most important

*I’m still 4 pages away, so someone may have already pointed this out

One other observation. The academic elitists might try to marginalize football, but they sure like dipping their hands into the revenue stream. So, there is a dilemma. Do they burn it down and kill the goose? Or help it lay even more golden eggs?

Seems like a no brainer to me. But, on the other hand, these academic types really aren't anywhere close to as smart as they think.

Absolutely. The AA has gotten used to being handed nearly all of the revenue these last 10yrs. New sheriff could decide to keep a lot of that in-house (rightfully so). From what I understand, that's a change Saban made, as well.

Another poster on here that has been locked out of his account because he tried to change his email address, UTVolinExile, stated the other day that his friend on the inside told him that the path on the academic end had been cleared. This is not a poster that jumps to conclusions or shoots off at the hip.

I know he's not that type of poster. Hope he's right.

If you are putting all your eggs in the Gruden basket, you are a huge gambler.

I would love to see Gruden here, but I am at about 5% maybe.

I believe at this point Currie is wanting to keep Butch Jones.

This hire, if it happens will make UT the next 10 years. No hire or bad hire and we are done for a long time. A good coach can come in and turn this team around pretty quick.

Message board insiders say 100% and Knox media says 0%. I’m just wondering if it is 100% then why would the Knoxville media try to act as if Gruden is no where near the realm of possibility. Why would Knoxville media say 0% but Swain, Finebaum, Basilio, amd Clay Travis all seem to think it’s at least possible and that Gruden will be contacted

Anyone know how to see if there’s possible plane movement from where Gruden was last night to see if he has possibly flown into Knoxville? I know crazy right...

I don’t either, but I just find it odd that he’s the odds on favorite to be the next Tennessee head coach and the local media totally shoots down an idea of it happening. I mean betting services usually knows these things by having reliable sources on the inside of situations like this.

The only people betting on this prop are Tennessee fans. They want Gruden. A rumor started and the bets started flowing on 5-1 odds. The money moves the line.

I'm seriously confused about the vitriol towards the "academic side" of the university. Without strong academics we don't have billionaire boosters coming down the line. It is a circle that must be connected. No one wins by hating the academics.

Growing rumors that if Butch gets to a bowl game, he gets one more year??? It’s on every board that is what Currie supposedly told him.

No way, right? I don’t see it.

Jon Gruden: 'I’m preparing to come back' to coaching in the NFL

"Gruden said he’s had opportunities to return, but he’s just holding out for the perfect fit. However, he ruled out coaching in college, joking: “I would probably have you on probation within four or five weeks,” because of all the recruiting and NCAA rule challenges."

That part of the statement is not a direct quote of Gruden saying I will not coach in college as per the OP I quoted said... but rather what the written interpreted it to mean... I am looking for the direct statement from Grudens lips where he said "I do not want the UT job" that is what the quoted OP had stated

Sunday afternoon/night i finally got it ... that this situation is fluid, ever changing.

what's true right now, at this exact moment, may not be true 5 minutes from now.

that makes it hard to go all in and believe what "insiders" tell us, and it makes it hard when what they told us doesn't pan out. it doesn't mean they were trolling.

this situation has more moving parts than a car.
i believe that, as long as all parts hold together, we'll arrive at the destination we're all hoping for.... Grudenville, TN.

if at any point, something flies apart, then the whole deal does.

the sooner people learn and understand the fluidity of this situation, the better they will cope with the "insiders."

This all day long ...Every question that is asked in this thread can be answered by this post .

What I am reading into it is that Knoxville media plays along with the story the UTAD wants released. This guarantees them continued access.

People need to start gravitating to John Harbaugh. He may be an option. Just saying. No insider info but just listen for rumours about him once Gruden is a no go

State run and AD fed media sources. The rest of those guys are not fed by the AD
