Official Jon Gruden Thread XXV

It's to the point that even WNML is reacting with bafflement regarding Currie's foot dragging. They say he's being overly cautious, way too much so and think he should have made some kind of statement after South Carolina. They also say there's just no way Butch can return as coach. It's not often you hear of that level of negativity from the station. Someone also said earlier that Jimmy Hyams stated he didn't think Gruden would be the next coach. Jimmy's normal stance is that he will not comment on any future coach as long as he knows the current coach has a job. He's said that for the last 10 years regarding basketball, baseball and football changes. If he's making any comments on new coaching candidates, he knows it's done.

QQ - and I'm not joking. Did CBJ ever really have the support of boosters at UT? From everything I've heard, he rubbed people the wrong way from day 1, even down to silly stuff like his limp handshake. But was given the benefit of the doubt because of rapid churn from Fulmer to Kiffin to Dooley...

Reason I ask, is if CBJ never really had the support, Currie would have been hired with full support to axe CBJ first chance he got. If I'm right, seems to me the wait now is a matter of getting ducks in a row vs. something more conspicuous.

If that were true, I'd think the boosters would be beating down Currie's door to fire Jones two weeks ago.

There seems to be too many opposite of what was said that's going on to make me re-think a lot of things.

I mean I was just as excited as everyone when I thought Butch was getting canned last night, but now I'm starting to question things.

Like why the hold up? Why not just go ahead and fire him? It seems to be causing more problems than helping.

If it's money related then that's just a weak excuse, FL didn't blink an eye at getting rid of Mac, even if it was "with cause" I'm sure they still had to pay him something, and his assistants buyouts as well will have to be paid if they're let go too.

Is the UT AD scared? Or just incompetent?

There is just nothing I can see that would explain what is happening in Knoxville right now.

He also said he would not directly ask Currie this, although I am with you in sentiment.

Butch was worse than Currie expected, throwing his timeline into disarray, and now he is stuck like...

My only concern is since when do quibbles by assistant coaches who will not be retained (most likely) after the season drive timelines for a decision that is literally rocking your fan base

I think Currie is working on the solution. I doubt it is that easy when no one wants to do it.

For years, I’ve enjoyed the forums. I read, occasionally comment but not often, and I form my own opinion based on what people have said. Some I believe, some I don’t, but if I don’t agree I just move along. If someone says something in an anonymous Internet forum, I take it with a grain of salt.
One thing we can all agree on is that our voice is loudest as a unified fan base. No need to burn mattresses or have a virtual free for all in an Internet forum. Support our players, keep pressure on the AD and UT Admin and have a little patience. This season is a wash at this point anyway.

But Hyams has openly talked about Mullen to Florida, Pot meet Kettle
