I hope this isn't too inflammatory for this thread, but I feel relatively confident in saying that Gruden isn't interested. I know everyone's mother's brother's third cousin's uncle on his father's side has a friend on the board that knows with absolute certainty that the deal has already been made, but I've just heard too much of that on the last go-around to have much faith. That being said, I'm not overly excited about potential Butch replacements either. The current Vegas odds top 5 have John Gruden (+250, although I still don't buy that he's interested, but maybe they know something I don't), Chip Kelly (+400), Jeff Brohm (+550), Bobby Petrino (+550), and Mike Norvell (+900).
Not gonna lie, there's only one name on that list that excites me, and that's Chip Kelly. Yes, the idea of Jon Gruden excites me, but as previously discussed, I just canlt make myself believe that he's interested. That being said, I;d like to discuss a name that I don't think gets brought up enough. It might be a long shot, but I think it's at least worth having a discussion about seeing if Jim Tressel is ready to come out of retirement. His show-cause penalty ended in Dec '16. He had 6 Big Ten Conference championships, 2 BCS championships (if you count the vacated one), and a a career record of 229792, or 241-79-2 if you count the vacated wins. With Ohio State, he was 94-22 (106-22). I just don't see another coach out there that can really match that record, and I don't know why he isn't discussed more.
Thoughts?
