Dan Mullen thread (merged)

They’re sitting at 6-2 after rolling up A&M. The only loss left on their schedule is Bama, which means they will finish the regular season at 9-3. At Miss. St that is Hall of Fame material and yet some of you are like “Eh, still want Grooden”. What’s wrong with you people? He would be my no. 1 realistic candidate at this point. Why isn’t he yours?

I will take him

id take

Patterson
Campbell
Frost
Fuente
Venables
Petrino
Leach
JBC

all over Mullen

Isn't that Frost's forte too?

I assume so. This isn't an argument against Frost.

I'd rather have Frost. Part of that is because he is already in the State of Florida.

With Mullen and Qb's, he has a longer track record.

They both have produced QB's in modern offenses.

I said when they hired him that he's a better coach than what UT hired.

Remember when James Franklin had back to back 9 win seasons at Vandy? Took them to 3 straight bowls in 3 years. AT VANDY. And few wanted him here, too. He was right in our back yard and easily obtainable. Mullen is just like him. Just waiting on an opportunity at a place he can win big. Sigh, I'm sure Florida or Arkansas will beat us to him, as per the usual.

He ain’t going to Arkansas. There is not one advantage or incentive to leave Starkville for Fayetteville.

His record is why but most don't take into account he's coaching at the Vanderbilt of the SEC west. Actually I take that back, there is nothing remarkable nor redeemable about Starkville. It is without a doubt the toughest place to win in the SEC.

people have said it before but if can win in Starkville imagine what he could do with the players he could get here

He wouldn't be a bad hire at all.

Tennessee would need to make a big commitment to him.

Not confident in Currie at this moment

We will end up with Bobo. He fits our M.O. He's cheap, a legacy of UGA, and has turned a 10 win mid major into a 7-6 program.

I'd rather have Frost too but could live with Mullen. Seems obvious to me but in both college and NFL, success revolves around the QB. You need to develop them in college and identify the franchise one in pros.

It’s one season 9-3. It’s not 12-0 or even 11-1 so why are you so hot for him??? Show me 2-3 11-1 or 12-0 and I’m all in

I'd much rather have Mullen than Gruden.

Gruden is not good at developing talent. That's not his skill-set, but that's most of what you do as a college coach. Gruden is a guy who takes a very talented team and can win a championship because he's great with X's and O's. He's much better suited for the NFL level than college.

I'd take Mullen in a heartbeat if we could get him. Same deal with Venables or Frost. I'm a bit discouraged that the AD might seriously be chasing Gruden or even worse, Petrino. Seriously, what has Petrino done in the past 4 years that makes him worthy of the job, even if he didn't have such a checkered past? Petrino really looks no different than "Generic Louisville Coach" and he looks worse than Charlie Strong at Louisville.

I love Mullen but I don't think UF gets that far down there list . Also not sure they would choose him over Frost , or Kelly

Yes they would too.

They went after him 3 seasons ago.

Mullen is one of the better coaches in the SEC.

Saban is really the only one I would put above him.

Petrino is faltering but not because of his offense.

His defense is non existent.

We good a DC with Petrino, and we're a force again.

Give me Mullen over Petrino or Gruden or Chip Kelly.

Mullen is a great coach no doubt, but he's also made plenty of questionable coaching decisions along the way. I'd be fine with Mullen as our next coach, but if gruden is actually in play I'd take him over Mullen in a heartbeat!

Still waiting for examples.

The big argument for Mullen (for any program) is that what has torpedoed some of the schools in the SEC (and Tennessee this season) is QB play.

And Mullen develops QB's.

True. He plucked Fitzpatrick from basically obscurity and has him playing like a stud. And of course we know what he did with Dak and even Tebow before that.

$$$$

Just took a look at SwampGas. They have a thread up that one of their insiders says a deal with Mullen is being inked with his agent. Keep in mind their new AD Strickland came from MSU.

What does Florida have to do with Arkansas?

Muschamp, at least at Florida, was a college version of Buddy Ryan in Philadelphia.

If he put the care and love into the offensive side of the ball that he did in the defense, he'd be a good head coach.

But, the effort in recruiting, the demands placed on assistants, the gameday philosophy (the offense's job is to give the defense a rest), just wasn't there.

Everything has to be treated the same.

Muschamp’s recruiting imbalance at Florida is the stuff of legend. NFL DB’s and LB’s and DL stacked up for days, but literally didn’t have a TE on the roster who could catch a pass or block a tackling dummy. Same with the OL. A few decent starters but left the program with 4 scholarship o-linemen. Garbage at WR, a bunch of guys who run 4.7 forties.

You asked me why he'd go to Arkansas. They have several multi-billion dollar donors.

Not more money thank what he currently is getting in MSU.

Once again, Mullen would never leave Starkville to go to Fayetteville.
