Dan Mullen thread (merged)

They’re sitting at 6-2 after rolling up A&M. The only loss left on their schedule is Bama, which means they will finish the regular season at 9-3. At Miss. St that is Hall of Fame material and yet some of you are like “Eh, still want Grooden”. What’s wrong with you people? He would be my no. 1 realistic candidate at this point. Why isn’t he yours?

He wouldn't be a bad hire at all.

Tennessee would need to make a big commitment to him.

Not confident in Currie at this moment

He’d never pick us over UF

Mullen is a great coach no doubt, but he's also made plenty of questionable coaching decisions along the way. I'd be fine with Mullen as our next coach, but if gruden is actually in play I'd take him over Mullen in a heartbeat!

99, what is your take on the bad blood between Foley and Mullen? Mullen would have been an obvious candidate when Muschamp got the job and certainly when Mac was hired. But Foley didn’t even look his way. Pat Dooley said last night that Mullen has terrible “bedside manners” and is “unvarnished.”

But dont get me wrong, as I’ve said, Mullen would be decided upgrages at UT and UF. My only point is that there’s a reason he’s been sorta stuck in Starkville.

Word is that Mullen is a jerk. I don't know if that's true, but it's what I've heard.

And he did not like his time at Florida for whatever reason.

The ONLY reason a rumor about Mullen to Florida being a possibility exists is that supposedly Mullen and the current Florida AD did get along.

Whether or not that's who they would pursue and whether or not the relationship is so strong that Mullen would put aside his previous feelings about Florida, I don't know.

My guess is that he won't be the guy hired.

I love Mullen but I don't think UF gets that far down there list . Also not sure they would choose him over Frost , or Kelly

I could see Mullen going to Florida, but I could also see them going after a splash hire. Maybe they've had their fill of former coordinators. I'd take him in a minute.

I still can’t even believe this is even a thread.

What Mullen has done at state is every bit as, if not more, impressive than what Franklin did at Vanderbilt.

Giving him a shot at a bigger program that actually has resources is a no ****ing brainer.

I can’t see a world in which Florida pursues Mike Norvell and not Dan Mullen.

But isn't that Muschamp?

No, what Florida fans want are wins.

Muschamp, at least at Florida, was a college version of Buddy Ryan in Philadelphia.

If he put the care and love into the offensive side of the ball that he did in the defense, he'd be a good head coach.

But, the effort in recruiting, the demands placed on assistants, the gameday philosophy (the offense's job is to give the defense a rest), just wasn't there.

Everything has to be treated the same.

He has been my #1 choice for a while, and I think would be very interested in UT, but the sudden turn of events at UF may muddy the waters. It would be hard to beat out UF for him, especially since he is familiar with Gainesville, but UF fans seem to favor Frost, then Mullen, although Nebraska could muddy the waters for UF. If UF does pull the trigger this season then the ideal situation would be for Nebraska to hold off on making a change so that UF goes after Frost and we have a better shot at Mullen. I don't really sorry ad much about teams like ATM making a change because I believe if Mullen wants out of MSU, it is in part because he wants out of the West so he has a much better chance to get to Atlanta.

Florida bound I'm sure.

They are clearly committed to a successful football program.

Florida is having a 10:30am meeting today with McElwain, that meeting is still ongoing.

Mullen wouldn’t be my first choice if I’m a Florida or Tennessee fan, but it’s definitely a possibility at both schools. And I think Mullen would be a significant upgrade at both places.

The big argument for Mullen (for any program) is that what has torpedoed some of the schools in the SEC (and Tennessee this season) is QB play.

And Mullen develops QB's.

Please give examples of questionable coaching decisions...

I don't understand why so many on here are opposed to Mullen

His record is why but most don't take into account he's coaching at the Vanderbilt of the SEC west. Actually I take that back, there is nothing remarkable nor redeemable about Starkville. It is without a doubt the toughest place to win in the SEC.
