Reduce his opt-out to go another school ($3 million irc) and reduce his buy-out by $3 million. Both sides win. Not an insider, just an idea.

Also, 83-52 as a head coach with SEC experience will be attractive to some schools out there. He can recruit. There are schools that are not huge football schools that would take .615 records, clean programs, and run with it.

My thoughts exactly.

This is a sore spot for a lot of people. However, people that give large amounts of money expect large items in return. I am not defending some of the actions but just know a different perspective exists. I give a reasonably substantial amount and I expect certain things in return. The problem is what I alluded to a couple days ago. The top of the pile guys are always trying to take control and it is not just two camps but several. With that being said I am becoming more confident that some of that is being put aside. Unfortunately only time will tell.

Good well spoken post. I hope they can put their egos aside and make this happen. If it does, I also hope they keep supporting the University monetarily and keep out of football decisions (for the right coach - Gruden).

I totally agree Bama sux!

This. The only time I leave for work is when I have to visit my staff in locations that I have to travel to. I’m currently waiting for my flight in Columbia, SC.

I drive an hour and a half each way to work and I work a 12 hour swing which usually turns out to be 13. I'm doing it wrong. 😕

Some insight on the current tension. To be clear, I don't have a list of "sources" or play golf with boosters. I don't have friends within the AD. But I am good friends with a "very important person" whose name you would all recognize. I'm not bringing any brand new info to the table which is why I'm comfortable posting this, but he helped clarify some things for me this morning.

The Gruden hire is 98% done. It's a matter of timing and a matter of when is the best time to let Butch go. That's the main point of friction right now. On one hand, as others have mentioned on here, there is concern about the focus and effort from the team if Butch is let go today. Could Hoke control the team? Or would it be mass chaos? The last time we were in this situation, you had players skipping workouts and discipline became very challenging. Remember, this is Hoke's first season in Knoxville and there are real concerns about his ability to take (and keep) control. For the sake of the seniors and guys fighting to make a bowl game, you want to give them every opportunity to do so. And many believe Butch gives you that best opportunity.

On the other side, you have guys who are worried, even paranoid, that this Gruden deal is going to fall through until it's officially announced. After all, they've seen crazier things happen within the UT AD, so their thinking is: "If we have to sacrifice potentially losing 1 or 2 more games this year, that's a worthwhile sacrifice to get the right guy for the future." In addition, many on that side argue that letting go of Butch now would actually energize the fanbase and the team, and could lead to more wins. So that's the current debate being had.

Lastly, anyone who says Currie has been bullied into this is wrong. He may not want leaks or the news out, but this is his guy and his opportunity.

Just let it all play out. And support the current players, especially the seniors!

Please do not ask for screenshots or documentation. I don't intend to go down that road, and anyone can fake a screenshot. God bless and Go Vols!

I find this post very intriguing, because I was just sitting down to say something very similar...will type it up and have it posted in a few minutes.

If he takes another coaching job it negates or drastically reduces his buyout right?

I've attached his contract. This answers many questions people have. It's actually very straight forward. I think you would find this a good read. Although, it would put you behind on this thread. But yes, the answer to your question is yes. His buyout would be reduced by his new salary. If we owe him 2mil a year, yet he gets a job making 1.5, we owe him $500,000. This contract also forces him to seek comparable employment. He can't just accept a buy out and sit on the couch and munch on chips.

Apparently he said it during a press conference and the University of Fl. didn't know anything about it until then. So who knows.

I understand. Again, I don't see this happening, but a couple of my gator friends are really hoping to rid of him and it just has me "thinking out loud".

I have no doubt he'll be a HC again eventually. But he'll likely take the Kiffin route and be a coordinator somewhere and end up at a smaller G5 school or the likes. He has to build his brand back up before he can even be considered again.

His calling is Special Teams Coordinator/ Recruiting Coordinator. He would excel at that.

This is basically the same thing I heard late last night.... I hope they can pull together and get it done

This rings of truth. And I would consider myself in the second camp.

my statement is not based on second hand information either. Butch's goofy sayings, slogans, etc are not very well received by the fans. Do you think that the players listen to it? I believe he has lost respect among many of the players and needs to go as soon as possible.

The players seem to respect Gillespie. I think they would rally around him.

Even though he has a low post count... I am buying it.

I've been on this site for a long time and gone by another handle, but given the recent interrogations of posters, I felt it wise to start fresh. And again, I'm not bringing anything earth-shattering here, just trying to help bring some clarity to a complex situation.

He will get another year. You don't fire a coach that has been to back to back SEC title games and a freshman QB. Not to mention the knuckleheads that were suspended.
