I am a fan of Mullen but Miss State has won at a higher level before he got there than Vandy has ever dreamed of. Winning at Vandy is more impressive

I think it evens out when you factor in how tough the West is. Franklin never faced a good Tennessee team.

Valid point without a doubt. Either way I would love to have Mullen or Franklin so it really doesn't matter whom was more impressive in the SEC.

I obviously agree with Hank on Mullen. Frost, Mullen, Brohm. I think Mullen's time is now to take the big step.

I don't agree on Chaney. But understand some have their own different experiences - at least those that have actually met him. Like InVOL my personal experiences with him were great. Funny guy that was willing to go deeply analytical in his discussions with me. I try not to judge people by their physical appearance, unless they were pointing guns at me or something.

UGA was very down too. And UF. I think I remember that Franklin never beat a team that finished the season ranked while at Vandy.

Mullen is kind of goofy, but I'd classify that as an A level hire personally.

he may be but it would be refreshing compared to what we have gotten from butch. The cliches, stubborn nature, no development. Dan would develop players and hes great with QBs. Frost or Mullen would be awesome IMO.

I’ve not been a big proponent of Mullen to UT, but that is a very compelling stat, especially considering that he has done this during much of a period when the SECw was the dominant division in the country.

I’m not saying he should be our #1 choice or that he is a home run like some claim.

Just that he’s a good football coach that might not have the sexiness of some others this go around. He’s had consistent success at a bottom 3 job in the conference. I think he would be successful at UT.

Agreed. I'll get over the goofiness real quick when he's winning football games.

Currie was part of the search obviously that hired Kiffin and during that search we passed over Gary Patterson (who reminds me of Mullen both personality wise and career at that point) and you see how that ended up. I think Currie will take that into consideration and focus more on just “ball coach” other than the stuff that Hamilton was. He had good success with snyder at KSU and he is borderline a mummy. He knows that winning is all that matters.

Who would you define as a "slam dunk hire"? Gruden, Patterson, Kelly?

At that tier of coaching candidates, getting one hired depends on outside circumstances almost as much the work the AD does. Currie could do everything right and there's a legit reason each of those could decide not to come that would not reflect badly on Currie IMO.

I would call Mullen a "slam dunk" in the sense that he is one of the best coaches in the tier that a fantastic pitch by Currie could lead him to come here

I really don't think one is available.

2010 (9-4) Gator bowl beat Rich Rod UMich (7-6) 52-14
2011 (7-6) Music City bowl beat Wake Forest (6-7) 23-17
2012 (8-5) Gator bowl Lost to Northwestern (10-3) 20-34
2013 (7-6) Liberty bowl beat Rice (10-4) 44-7
2014 (10-3) Orange bowl Lost to Ga Tech (11-3) 34-49
2015 (9-4) Belk bowl beat NC State (7-6) 51-28
2016 (6-7) St. Petersburg bowl beat Miami, OH (6-7) 17-16

In 2016 they went bowling with a 5-7 regular season record.

Most of us want to believe my friend...and that includes me. People certainly will prey on that...however I don’t have any agenda to do so. I also feel MIT BEAVE didn’t have an motive to do so either. I only want the best for this football team and its players. The entire state of TN deserves better than what we have had to deal with between Dofus, Lane, and now butch.

How would you know how an honors member speaks? Is there some country club way of saying something that I am unaware of?

Fact is the guy came in here with information. I simply noticed that there had been a bunch of talk about honors etc by him so as a member myself very easy for me to vet with a few simple questions to see if he was full of bs...he nailed them both. What he was saying also lined up with some of the things i had heard from my neck of the woods so I felt inclined to post and also make him an offer.

And for your info...the Blackburn deal was as good as done...until about the only person in those neck of the woods had to get involved....and it blew up. Which he is rather good at. Another epic failure IMO that highlighted the power struggle with some of our largest boosters. It has been a constant since i have been involved.

I get it...trust me. But this university truly can’t have another swing and a miss. Too many big money folks really are ready to walk away from serious commitments including myself if this is a underwhelming hire.

Just know I have no reason at all to do anything but bring my opinion on things. I have been and will continue to be very careful with what i post and what i don’t....That is a must in order to protect myself. On the security front I did get some of my people involved on that today....but you can never be too safe. Would hate to have to disappear but would if it meant the AD would have better success in the overall goal.

I’m posting these comments from ATL because Volatil said he learned who he was through the donations and could verify he was as inside as inside gets in case anyone was wondering why I was posting them. From the sound of things and his writing he seems to be a pretty high level one as well.
