Really? If Gruden was the hire, what's stopping him, Currie, the BOT and a number of other people privy to the info to go out and place significant bets shortly before things are announced publicly?

It would be a severe NCAA violation. People would be fired.

I can't bet on any sport that is played by the University of Tennessee on any level of play, whether that be peewee or professional.

I've been wondering something regarding some of the big boosters.... why do they give so much money to the university? What's in it for them?

I'd love to think they just love the Vols - but there has to be something in it for them for it to be such a popular thing.

Do they receive a return on investment in any way other than wins? Are there major tax benefits for donating?

Surely I'm missing something.

While I think a lot of the time the guys on Fox sports Knoxville just stir up stuff, I will agree with what they are saying this morning. There is a large disconnect between the academic side of the University and the athletic side of the University. Alabama changed around the academic calendar to suit the football team so that they could be more successful. In return the athletic side gives more money to the academic side. This in return allows the academic side to hand out more scholarships etc. to build the school. At Tennessee the academic side has this elitist mentality and they don’t care what happens with the football team and they feel like they can do the academics on their own. Until there is a mutual understanding from each other and probably some changes to our academic calendar to suit the football team and practice schedules we are going to be stuck in mediocrity. It’s probably one of the reasons why a guy like Jon Gruden will not take the job

Not at you, jordan4vols, but I'm not sure I agree with all the Bama-envy around here. Sometimes it almost seems people want us to be more Bama than Vols.

It's a good thing Bama has money. They have to pay for all those bandwagons somehow.

I believe those type of bets are only with offshore entities. I don't think Vegas takes those type of bets. I guess there is nothing stopping someone close to them doing it other than it's probably immoral and could cost them a job.

Get to know Frosts offense with this article. Go get him now Currie!

NB4: “that offense won’t work in the SEC..”

Meet Scott Frost: How his UCF offense works and why he’s a hot name - SBNation.com

I'll be that guy. If we hired Frost I'd be happy to be wrong, but after reading and watching that I really just don't see it working in the SEC on a consistent basis. SEC DLines would obliterate the small OLinemen that would be required for all of those pulls and block schemes (or to prevent that, the large OL would be too slow to execute the schemes). SEC caliber linebackers are too fast to allow these plays to get to the corner. SEC DBs are too strong and well coached to allow pass catchers to get that kind of separation.

Honestly I like the offense -- a lot. It's old school football being run in the new era. I'd love to have played in that sort of offense. But I don't think it is well suited for the caliber of athletes SEC defenses get.

I think Frost would kill it somewhere in the PAC12 or even at Nebraska where he'd be facing a bunch of slow defenses.

I guess what I'm driving at is can I trust you guys to tell me it's really, really, really SOON so I can, let's say, invest in the announcement?

Immorality went out the window towards the end of the 2nd half of the UMass game and my job is expendable, at least to me.

Haha. Well, I can't believe I am falling for it for a second time. But the news this time around seems more believable. When Atlanta Vol commented on it, I started believing that it could actually happen.

On the subject of QB's - QD and JG had Butch, Debord and this year, Canales, to teach them to not stare down receivers, not throw off the back foot, to step up into the pocket, to "feel" pressure, to get the ball out quickly in the right spots. They each got to see Dobbs at work. Neither one was ready.

It's coaching. Those two guys are talented. They are not developed. Some on here like Debord. Dobbs and Kamara with JJ and Malone made that offense with the O-line performing adequately. It was not Debord other than having good periods of play calling. He had never been a QB coach and only had Sheridan. We all know Dobbs was not the most accurate, but man, could he run. The threat of him running opened up passing lanes. Our O ran up some great stats against bad D's the second half of the season to make it look better.

What Dobbs developed himself into is what we wanted to have happen when JG started. But JG will have the same learning curve Dobbs did because this coaching staff doesn't develop their players. They practice within a system. In general, they don't develop. Watch Bama and UGA. LSU's are starting to be and Mullen gets the most out of his lesser talent. Those inexperienced players that come into games are developed to best they can be. They are ready, they just need to play. Ours are not except at RB and now at DB (IMO).

So that should tell the powers that be the type HC we need. No more system coaches or panic hires that are champions of the mic, but can't get it done. Real coaches.

That's his game. His arguments are so ridiculously stupid that it makes it hard not to call him out on it. That's why he should be ignored by all posters. By ignoring him that protects us from ourselves lol

Lol.

Think about how foolish your post is.

You really saying that a poster saying play was a cheap shot was ridiculous and stupid?

I guess John Gruden is ridiculous and stupid as well since he said the same thing during the broadcast

Mainly love for their university and it's athletic programs. Buildings named after them. Input in coaching and major program/facility decisions. Behind the scenes access such as closed practices and game field passes. Stocked boxes to watch the games in style. Prestige. Etc.

And this is how you described it Bruin.....

Let's keep it real Bruin. You embellished what happened so you could take a position on an island with everyone defending the former Vol.

Ziti,

It really is simple. I misremembered how low the hit was.
After going to twitter I tried to edit the post before it was read to keep this from happening. I even posted the play because others wanted to see it.
I was wrong about it being low but it doesn't change anything else I posted as the play was 100% dirty. More importantly it doesn't change that Gruden called DB out for the play and very Hashly at that. I bet he gets a hefty fine as well .

Looked no different than a lot of plays seen on a Sunday.

It's tackle football and he didn't go for the guy's head or his knees. BFD.
