I wrecked my car on the east end of Magnolia Ave back in High School 20+ years ago. Guy came up to me and said I drove like Mario Andretti. Assumed it was a compliment considering I landed perfectly in a shopping center parking space right next to a Corvette for sale. Bottom of my car didn't far so well though.
Man, I will believe Gruden is the head football coach at UT when I see him at the podium. I hope it happens. But I was here in 12, and will not get my hopes up too high again.
Just because money isn't an issue doesn't mean they wont try to save a couple million if they can lol. Come on man!
If Manning is really on board with Gruden, then so am I. Gruden does know football and is a QB guru. My only concern is that he's NOT a college coach. But, I'm certain that he could get top recruits to UT and have the Vols competing with Alabama again.
Hey SFD, have you ever read Section 3.2.8 of Butch's contract?
"In its sole discretion, the University may elect to terminate this Agreement for cause under this Section 3.2 but offer Coach continued employment with or without a new employment agreement."
🤔

i'm here again, hopes sky high ... if i'm dashed again (that's not necessarily gruden or bust mind you, but no blue light specials) i'm out.
won't care next time.
While I agree with you to a certain extent, it would just be looking at the money side in the short term. If you hire the right guy (Gruden) that would energize the fanbase into a frenzy the long term profits would far outweigh any short term savings. Assuming the rumors are true and Tennessee has Gruden in their pocket, going ahead and firing Jones now would be a sound investment. Each day that passes keeping Jones employed is money lost.
It's this reasoning that has me doubting MIT's story and starting to question if Gruden has been anywhere near to taking the job at all.
I can see that but still feel like, when analyzing the the gain vs. the loss in this scenario, that the loss of not pulling the trigger now out weighs the gain of saving a couple of million that could easily be recouped in increased ticket and merchandise sales. JMHO

What would qualify as a justification of for cause based on what is outlined in the contract? Unless something happened thats been kept well under wraps, Im not seeing anything pop out.
