Here is a question for LWS- If we made a “Saban-esque” offer, and he rejected based on the grounds of not wanting to ruin friendships, what is left to offer top tier coaches?

Saban had a few reasons besides money to go to Bama, but money was the main reason. Gruden has a few reasons to choose Knoxville besides money, and apparently the money was there. So, what is not attractive about this job?

Us.

Peyton gm
Gruden hc
Jim bob oc (explains why Gruden might reach out to him)
Butch special teams

All these have been rumored...

This would suck but could be great for the browns. I certainly hope not

A lot of this is laughable.

But it is absolutely absurd to think JBC would leave a pro bowl QB to go take a lateral move to the worst franchise in the NFL who doesn't have a QB on the roster.

LWS already said, in his opinion Gruden just doesn't want to coach college. For whatever reason.

An open letter to John Curry:

Dear Mr. Curry,

Find us a football coach. Find us a football coach who knows how to win. Find us a football coach who can beat the teams we're supposed to beat. Find us a football coach who can beat some of the teams we're not supposed to beat and fight to the end in our losses. Find us a football coach that won't be a 37 point underdog to bama, and still lose on the spread. Southern Miss, Missouri, Kentucky and Vandy should NEVER have Tennessee circled on the calendar as a probable win.

I don't have to have Jon Gruden or Chip Kelly. But give us a coach who can put a good product on the field and be competitive every week. I'd like this coach to go to press conferences and just answer questions and not make up slogans. But you know what, if he's winning, I don't care.

I won't have a say in the selection of the next coach, nor should I. But I, like many fans are counting on you to make the right decision. Do the fans have to come into Neyland and wave white flags to show they've had enough? Just find us a football coach. I'm over Butch Jones.

signed,

a lifelong Tennessee Vols fan.

end/rant

Well done. Whoever John Curry is, I’m sure he’ll enjoy it. :)

You guys want to believe so bad that you’ll believe anything. MIT was emphatic that Gruden was a done deal this week. He even gave financial specifics of the deal.

Look at John Currie. Read his body language. You really think he’s already signed Gruden?

I understand your desire for change but don’t be stupid. You’re setting yourself up for a huge disappointment.

If he did have a deal with Gruden (or anybody else) how would he look on the field? Satisfied? After a Bama beat down? It seems he tried to make himself very visible on purpose.

That was a power move. Putting himself right on the field after a beat down. Yea it was saying i know what's going on, i hear you and something will have to change.

I can tell you why:

Coaching college football is a PITA. In many ways, because of all the recruiting, academics, and various other rules, it is harder than the NFL. Then you have to answer to all the big money boosters on top of all that. That is why Saban puts a clamp on it as much as he can, and why Bama gladly gives it to him.

This weekend has just flat out sucked. I'm completely deflated right now.

This is probably the worst I've felt about UT football since 2001. Ever since that LSU game, where LSU kept running the same play over and over, and LSU coaches were up in the box giggling "Do it again, do it again" I have had a lot of apathy towards UT football.

And the Bama loss was the least of the problems. That's saying something. You also got stuff like this:

Tony Robinson was at the Alabama game for the first time since he was injured there all those year ago. He said he told the guy next to him that when he was at UT we beat them 4 years straight. Guy looked at him and said "yeah, right". It is only a fable now that we were ever any good apparently.

There is going to be (and already is) a whole generation of kids that don't know that Tennessee football can be really damn good, so they are going to settle for mediocrity. That hurts.

Yeah that and grow up fans of other teams because they're embarrassed to say they're a TN fan. I used to never see Bama fans where I live. The orange was always represented. They're everywhere now. smh

Gruden already said this summer he did not want to coach college

Jon Gruden won’t coach college because of NCAA: "I’d probably have you in deep, deep trouble if I was your coach”

Jon Gruden: “If I became a college coach I’d probably (be) on probation in 4-5 weeks. Too many rules, man. I like to work”
