Some DC coaching Div 3 ball out in Idaho gets a look, and they dress him up etc

Why? Are we just a dead program? Bama can get Saban. OSU can get Meyer. Mich can get Harbaugh. But we can't lure Fuente from Va Tech? Patterson from TCU?

Is the best we can do Matt Campbell?

I don't believe it. I can't believe it.

I think my table is right based on the reference documents but I had Feb 29, 2020 instead of Feb 28, 2021 in the text. I edited. The contract specifies that a contract year runs from Mar 1st through the end of Februrary.

Timing and luck have a lot to do with it

Sources say we are ready to pay. Chip is the only big dog out of coaching now.

Saban was failing in the NFL
Urban was taking a year off
Harbaugh is alumni

Gruden simply does not want to coach college ball. For whatever reason, Chip apparently is not interested in Tennessee. Every other big coach has a steady program and secure job. Why leave?

I've never really understood the search firm thing. If younwantnthem to vet candidates and mine interest that's fine. Give them a list and send them on their way, but have them go get you coaches is stupid imo. If you're a decent AD, you know who you want, have a realistic idea who would take it, and go get them.

Only reason I can think of is giving Butch a chance to finish strong and go elsewhere to avoid buyout. Prob also means we don't have anyone not currently employed lined up either

Pretty sure Dooley came recommended by a firm... and Muschamp. Dang.... we’ve gotta start to beat that clown

We’ve seen this a few times.

After UGA “he’s gone”

After USCE “Sunday or Monday”

After yesterday I’m thinking this dude is bulletproof. I believe he’s gone when I see John Currie say “We will search the nation for the best coaches who will bring Tennessee back to its rightful place among the elite. Our standard is championship football.”


Then proceeds to hire Mike Bobo


Football hates us

besides our Defensive play at times, what makes anyone remotely think he can win out?! That's hilarious. Come talk to me when we are scoring TD's on the reg and then we'll look at the chances of winning out. SMH...
We have no WR play, they are non-existent, JG can't throw a pass, even flat-footed with time, and every team will stack the box from here on out. Our O line is banged up and playing like 'ussies with zero fire. yeah, but he could win out... He could barely get past UMass people...

John Currie ha definitely not given the vote of confidence speech, so that is something.

There were roadblocks and challenges to get any of those guys to those programs. Sure, they had advantages too, but they did what they had to do to get their guy.

I like Scott Frost. Would endorse his hire. But when we're talking about how Justin Fuente is an impossible dream, and settling for the likes of Matt Campbell and DJ Durkin, something is awry.

According to that poster VIN the search firm did not recommend Butch but we hired him anyway. Would be interesting to compare their top candidate and where they are now. I would immagine Currie would not be listenting again if their top candidates had been flops.

What's your problem with Matt Campbell? He's a pretty good coach.

What VIN posted about his neighbors search firm gave me knew perspective. He described it as more of an analytics process.
Basically vegas odds style review of potential coaches and recommend tiering of most to least likely to succeed. End of the day I bet it is still more subjective than mathematical though.
