1) Excellect recruiter because his reputation and personality recruits itself. Any recruit would be dumb to not come play for him.

2) Great at x’s and o’s. One of the best minds in all of football.

3) Won at the absolute highest level (Super Bowl with Tampa)...against the team he developed (Raiders). People will listen and buy in because he’s been there.

4) Excellent with QBs. Seen as a guru.

5) Loves Tennessee, understands our history/expectations, and will give his all for it.

6) He’s a grinder still. Loves the game and word is he still gets up at 4am to study film.

7) Will recruit amazing coaches for his staff because again...who wouldn’t want to coach alongside Gruden?

8) He’s so entertaining! Half the battle in college is keeping your team constantly interested and grinding. He will make it fun. Media, recruits, players, and fans will all love him.

This to the 100th degree. People act likes he’s gonna have to go knocking on doors like some google coach. His reputation proceeds him, he’ll recruit just fine.

1. That's just an assumption on your part based on the fact he's a current TV personality. Not particularly compelling.

2. I'm not sure I'd agree with that. He won a SB with a team a previous coach built in his first year with that team, then was totally mediocre for the ensuing 6 years after that with only 2 playoff appearances and zero playoff wins.

3. See #2.

4. Why? Because he has a TV segment where he watches film with college QBs coming into the draft? What great QBs did he develop in Tampa?

5. I actually don't doubt that, assuming he wanted the job.

6. Probably, but a lot of other guys also fit that bill.

7. That's just another assumption on your part. He's done nothing in his history that indicates he could build a great staff of recruiters/position coaches at the college level.

8. Non sequitur.

Then who?

4. maybe you haven’t heard of Rich Gannon. Gruden took him from NFL journeyman QB to NFL MVP.

Then who?

A guy the fanbase will be underwhelmed with is almost certainly going to be hired. There are no "home run hires" and Tennessee, while a good job, is not the job most Tennessee fans think it is.

The biggest name coach Tennessee could realistically hire is probably Bobby Petrino, although his baggage will likely scare the admin away. If not Petrino, the next biggest guys just in terms of name recognition are probably Justin Fuente and Brent Venables.

IMO, the actual coach hired will be someone like Chad Morris, Mike MacIntyre, or Mike Norvell.

Then who?

He has built a legacy much like madden. He is more than a coach. Watching as much football as he has to only helps develop your skills, especially with his experience. That's thousands of thousands of hours of tape he watches with every different formation possible. He has probably seen every possible play.

😂😂 Do you realize he not only won the Super Bowl (which doesn’t just happen by having good players)...but he beat the Raiders team which he developed? He has been pursued for some of the best jobs for a reason. I’m just glad our AD knows this would be a great hire.
