I was on VQ for years. Never bought in on Swan Man being a great inside source. Always seemed like skeeter here. Pretty good at reading the tea leaves, never gives anything concrete that can't be backed out of/explained away later. Good at saying a lot without really saying anything.

JMO.

Sums up a lot of insiders. The last definitive insider we've had was Mueller. I don't think VQ has any right now.

The cult of Gruden is overblown, IMO. If he was a hot name among NFL owners every offseason, he would be coaching somewhere. He and his agent and PR people, along with his stint on MNF, have successfully created an almost cult of personality around him. Especially for a guy with 1 ring and a .550 NFL record.

.540 NFL record which puts him at 70 out of 479 NFL coaches in history. Top 15 percent.

Sean Payton is .588 with "only" one super bowl win with Drew Brees as his QB. Would you take Brees or Brad Johnson?

Saban is .479

The ole ball coach? .375

Butch Davis .407

Mike Ditka .560

Pete Carroll .588

Bill Parcels .569

Am I making my point here??

Not really.

I'm not saying he's a bad coach by any means. He has a ring. But he has been out of the game for a long time and his reputation is greater among fans than it is among NFL owners. There's a cult of personality built up around Gruden. We're not talking about Belichik sitting on the sidelines for a decade and teams just hoping and praying they get a chance to interview him, but it sometimes seems that way with Gruden.

If owners were onboard with the idea of Gruden being a can't miss coaching hire, he would have been in the MNF booth for 2-3 years max.

And look up Lovie Smith's NFL record or even Jim Mora's. Both roughly around .500. Both on hot seats in the college game.

I really hope these "reports" that UT is willing to make a big splash hire aren't false. Regardless of Gruden, I want to see UT shell out big bucks for a coach that is capable of bringing UT back to forefront of CFB.

So Gruden has forgotten how to coach in ten years.

Know what this tells me? Not a lot of fun happening in the AD right now.

Which to me, is a good thing. If there were a lot of fun happening in the AD given the state of our FB program that would be concerning to say the least.

I'm hopeful that the new regime can align the powers that be to actually fix this thing once and for all.

I firmly believe they are true but I only see a few possible coaches they will pay that big money for and I not sure any are realistic.

Kelly
Patterson
Gruden
Fuente

Are the only coaches I see fittIng into that high dollar crowd and I think all of them might say no.

UT should go to $7+ before taking no for an answer on those first 3.

Insiders aren't going to disclose confidential info on a public forum unless it's already breaking or they want the media to pick it up and run with it. When only a small circle of people know something, it's easy to track back a leak that could cost them their job. Sometimes, people have useful info or insight. And some people just make things up to stir the pot.

And I am more concerned that they hire the right coach that will win us the most games. Much better scenario than AD worrying about fans' emotions and forcing a splash based on a "name" coach.

Don't know this poster on VQ (he has less than 100 posts in 7 years as a member) his name is VolHbomb but he responded to a thread in the middle of the night asking if ChattaVol06 (the guy who posted the really long FB group chat Grumors the other day) was legit...

If he's right that sucks about Gruden but sounds like good news on plan B options.

I wish they would define massive names.
If it's someone like Brohm, Petrino, Schiano then it's a big disappointment

The top names won't be about money. It will be about whether they want to coach CFB next year and if they want to coach at UT.

UT's not going to pay stupid money for Fuente. They'll simply move down the list.

Yeah I think so as well. There aren't a ton of options that fit into the "big fish" category.

IMO, all of the big splash hires that have been mentioned so far could kill it here.
