A coordinator hire would not go down well

You're right, but that's kind of dumb, in my opinion. At some point every good head coach was a coordinator. Kirby Smart has been very successful.

I'm just saying, hire the guy you think is the best coach you can get. I'm not campaigning for any of the coordinators, but excluding them outright is short-sighted.

Kirby had been a DC under Saban for years. How long has been the OC at Clemson been there? Doesn’t matter, don’t want. Give me a proven HC.

Totally off topic but if we do end up having a rough year in basketball like is being predicted, I wonder if Currie would even think about Rick Petino?

No chance in hell. I don't think it will be a rough year. I think Barnes is going to make a fine soup with his ingredients. I'm excited for basketball. I think we make the tournament this year.

For the 10,000th, Gruden isn't going to be the next coach here.

LWS is smoking something or just fanning the flames.

Sure, whatever.

LWS didn't say we are getting Gruden. Only said we are talking. He gave 5% odds of him coaching here. That isn't exactly fanning the flames....he can't help how people react to that

I think the decision Gruden is making revolves around coaching college vs. not coaching at all. I have to think the NFL is simply not an option.

You have declining interest, the CTE issue, activism & politics, and an apparent lack of direction/leadership on pretty much every level.

If you want to simply coach football for the sheer love and simplicity of it, the NFL doesn't appear to be a practical option.

Hmm. I've always thought of college football coaching as being more complex than NFL coaching. Definitely something to chew on.

It seems like ESPN is on the full pitty card for Petino and Jay Bilas was saying how he believes him and stuff. College B.B. is so sleezy Anyway. Still would be hard to not at least kick the tires imo

If it was a one time thing I could see it, but it's become a pattern. Show cause could be in his future.

Don't know this poster on VQ (he has less than 100 posts in 7 years as a member) his name is VolHbomb but he responded to a thread in the middle of the night asking if ChattaVol06 (the guy who posted the really long FB group chat Grumors the other day) was legit...

@ChattaVol06 appreciate the info you provided. I know for a fact what you reported was true. I also know with 100% certainty that we made a serious run at him, but tonight Gruden turned it down. He liked the feeling of being courted and wooed, loves Vols, but coaching college at this point didn't make sense.
There is good news though. Currie, Fulmer, Peyton all were involved and have made some VERY good impressions on other massive names!

If he's right that sucks about Gruden but sounds like good news on plan B options.
