Official Jon Gruden Thread XVIII

Hey old friend.

John is very much like what I assume you have heard. I don’t know what he is doing but I do know that silence is a powerful leverage tool.

I also know the AD is locked down tight. I had surmised that only a small group 10 or so know exactly what is happening. That being said I had that conversation last night with someone that told me it was more like 3. That is as far as the AD is concerned. I have several good friends that are in that office. I will not say what they do as it would give them up. I can also tell you that they know “something” is happening and it has been stated if anyone hears anything and it is repeated their position will be re-evaluated. I am certain John does not want any lose lips that can be traced back to him (my opinion).

Thank you for this information....

Guys this poster has the clout ... knows what?s up

No malicious intent? He and his coaching staff were calling our committed recruits and telling them to go to USC instead. For the early enrollees, they told them not to show up on campus because it would make it more difficult for them to go to USC instead.

Screw Kiffin and every single assistant coach on his staff!

He was doing that to benefit USC, not to hurt Tennessee. Yes it did hurt us.. but that wasn't his intention.

I'm not defending his actions. I still hate him for what he did. I'm just pointing out that hurting Tennessee was not his goal. It was a by-product.

Can't speak for others, but I will not. The Jones tenure has been divisive enough. I want a happy fanbase again.

Sadly, that will never happen.
If we land Gruden, then all of those calling us crazy now will become hell bent on seeing him fail. They will be foaming at the mouth to call us out on any loss or questionable play.
On the other hand, we will most likely come to his defense in these instances.
Essentially what will happen is a role reversal where you have current posivols become negavols and negavols become posivols.

And the world keeps turning...

I get the sense that there is so much silence right now as a good omen. I think a decision has already been made as to whom and the only question remaining is what day to pull the trigger. The handful of people important enough to matter have all been consulted amd everything is in place. If it were otherwise you would hear all sorts of underground rumblings. Satisified people can keep a secret, unhappy ones cannot.

Blame Hamilton more than anything for that ridiculous oversight

I don't post a lot, but I'm all in for Gruden. Have been since 2012. I only lurked back then (didn't join til later). Those original threads were gold.

I'm right there with you. I had a connection from CF up through Jones. Jones didn't think they had what it took to for his admin. Those were great times.

You lack faith in Gruden's ability to unify us all

What if... and this is a stretch... but what if one of Gruden's "conditions" for coming is that we allow him to hire Lane Kiffin as OC?

So if the options are:
A) Gruden & Kiffin
B) No Gruden

Do you allow him to bring Kiffin back?

This is pretty spot on. I know the one person in the office and he's basically all cut out past being very confident Butch won't be back. Other than that, he doesn't know anything. And technically he hasn't been told that, just said there is way too much going on for there to not be a an exit and succession plan in motion.

If the group were 10, I'm pretty sure he'd be in. Has to be closer to 3.

If those are the only two options, yes. Hypothetically speaking.

Keep in mind...I've never yet predicted Gruden to the Hill. I learned my lesson about concrete predictions last time around. I'm as hopeful as anyone though, and a lot (all) of what I'm hearing points at that....more than last time.

Like has been said by others, the only thing that will keep him away this time is himself. I believe UT has committed to getting him.

I thought you took the brunt of the vitriol on VN when it didn’t happen last time. I was more impressed with your handling of the situation after it was over than when we were having all of our fun on Gruden island. I am happy you are back in the saddle this go around. I am glad to see the band back together.

Like I said...it'll be announced when it's most beneficial to Mr. Currie and what he is trying to accomplish.

I subscribe to the theory that they are letting Butch twist in the wind in order to renegotiate the buyout...I don't know that, but it would align with the way Currie has been described to me.

That being said, it won't surprise me if he's let go after Bama...which I have heard.

Who knows?

As I've said before, strictly going by the info you and others have given, if butch is officially fired in the very near future it could only mean Gruden is our new coach.

Hard to even entertain this question. I don't believe for one minute, knowing the history Kiffin has with TN, Gruden would even ask!
