Coaches We Have Contacted

I think the only certain thing is short of a miracle where this team beats Bama and goes forward with several wins that CBJ is gone one way or the other. Guy is too stressed and we used to joke about him being purple but looking at that pic and how much he has aged his personality can't handle this kind of job. I think even if he was winning it would be slowly killing him. No joking here either.

I don't know, Sgt. Carter handled Gomer longer than I thought he could.:)

From a very reliable source in his 40's with the last name Bailey, the AD has started contacting coaches. He wouldn't give me any big names (hinted at some), but he gave me 4 smaller ones, some of whom have already been mentioned here. I give you, in no particular order:

1. Frank Wilson
2. Jason Candle
3. Neal Brown
4. Jedd Fisch

Obviously, as with any hearsay, take it with a large grain of salt.
e
Seems like a legit list since I don't know any of them

The longer they dilly dally with Jones, the more this recruiting class is going to fall apart and with the early signing period that gives the prospective future coach zero time to salvage it. It also puts us in direct competition with other schools who may be looking at coaches like Florida, Texas A&M, etc.

I would hope Currie isn't sitting on his hands over there. The world knows Butch is done. Keeping him around another year would put us back to the way it was post Dooley.

I’d prepare for the plunder of this current class, regardless of the timing of Butch’s ouster. Say our most far-flung fantasy comes true and Gruden is landed? Doubt he would be announced until November and that’s a short window for the early signing period. He could spend the time between agreeing and being announced boning up on recruiting and making contacts in the high school ranks but he can’t announce staff...much less put them on the road. He’s at the mercy of the current staff who have no idea of their futures. If we try to get Lynn-Dixon back on board or land someone comparable, will they buy that Gillespie will be their position coach? And this scenario only applies if it’s Gruden or Kelly (please no Miles!). If it’s a currently employed coach, this imbroglio doesn’t BEGIN until their current team’s season ends. Bag someone like Frost and the whole asking of permission, courting, negotiating and signing of contract takes upwards of a week...early December! No, when it became apparent that Butch wasn’t going to stick that triple axle, I cinched up my seatbelt and prepared for my recruitingmobile to (at best) need new fenders and bumpers and an overhauled suspension. :pinch:

I have literally no inside info and I can guarantee butch won’t be here next year. Media won’t allow it

Honestly, UT could go cheap and keep CBJ till they get over the hump on his buy-out or re-negotiate. I have not seen anything to indicate a change in philosophy from administration. From the looks of the crowd vs. SC, people are still interested. After all, attending a game at Neyland is still an event to behold.

For those who don’t feel like looking them up:

1. Wilson- HC- University of Texas-San Antonio
2. Candle- HC- University of Toledo
3. Brown- OC- UCLA
4. Fisch- HC- Troy

Corrections:

#3 Neal Brown is the HC at Troy.
#4 Fisch is the OC at UCLA.

you seriously do not understand how these things work. No Currie would not be speaking with agents at his point. Now there are likely other people not employed by UT who are speaking with agents to gauge interest. that is how these things get handled. ADs don't do that when they have a coach on staff.

I just repeated something I have heard in the last day. If you check on other sites, there are others that have also indicated they have been hearing this in the last day or so.

As I said also, I can't see Currie selling this to the big money guys who will make the decisions

So Chizik’s the new DC? Alright! :cool2:

0 with that list does it really matter?

People are going to be disappointed when the hire is actually made.

I am curious about any recent examples of other programs that have hired major proven winners from other big-time schools? As I stated in another post, look at Texas and LSU. Most people would concede those are two of the biggest names in college football with tons of money, great facilities, and fertile recruiting grounds. They had a bidding war for the coach of Houston, who had only been an HC for a mid-major program for a couple of years.

In other words, UT isn't going to make a lateral hire. That goes for UT and pretty much every other school unless there is some personal/family connection, or other major compelling reason to be at the school.

I’d rather have Bear Bryant’s femur bone as our next HC. More gravitas.

If true there really no reason for us to continue to spend our hard earned money to support this dollar general program.

I highly doubt John Currie has begun contacting any coach anywhere. He has a football coach and it would be highly unethical for him to be talking to coaches who were employed at other institutions. His name would be mud all over the college football landscape.

Do not believe this is happening.

Let it be written
