I hope you're right, but this is not baseball, and he is the guy chosen by an administration that I don't have any belief in at all when it comes to commitment to excellence in CFB. He is their puppet as far as I can see, but I hope you are right.

I’m just saying there is absolutely nothing negative that Currie has done so far except not being the fan choice. If Fulmer came in and did the exact same things Currie has done so far. People would have multiple statues built already. From the little I’ve actually been around John and all I’ve heard he is 100% business.

CK is my number one choice, but there's something about him that seems somewhat smoke and mirrors. I don't know why but it strikes me that way. But 46-7 doesn't lie. And the way the team held together for a couple years after he left and then immediately crumbled is indicative that he was a badass coach and his replacement just couldn't maintain what he built, but COULD win with what was essentially Kelly's team.

You might as well give Helfrich's wins to him (before the team hit a downward trend). He's technically 70-11 with two NC game appearances, lol.

Would be such a homerun splash hire for UT. It's exactly what we need.

Pretty solid list below, I'd say (from Wikipedia):

Frost was coached by Stanford’s Bill Walsh, Nebraska’s Tom Osborne, the New York Jets’ Bill Parcells and Bill Belichick, and Jon Gruden.

Frost has worked for the following head coaches as an assistant/positional coach:
Frank Solich: Nebraska (1998–2003); Ohio (2005–present)
Ron Prince: Kansas State (2006–2008)
Mark Farley: Northern Iowa (2001–present)
Chip Kelly: Oregon Ducks (2009–2012); Philadelphia Eagles (2013–2015); San Francisco 49ers (2016)
Mark Helfrich: Oregon Ducks (2013–2016)

Also, his position coach at TB was Mike Tomlin, who Frost credits with getting him into coaching. One of the first calls he supposedly received after accepting the UCF job was from Tomlin.

Plus, he has an impressive record as both a DC and OC.

We have complained in the past about how the stars seemingly align for other programs when they have an opening and never for us.

Well, there he is. A 46-7 coach who is UNEMPLOYED and we're about to have an opening.

I think Kelly would have won a NC with sophomore or junior year Mariota. Moot point because he had a show cause, but still. That was his team and QB that Helfrich rode to the playoffs.

I don’t think he has a show cause if he stays in CFB. NCAA trying to put on a strong front because they knew he was already gone and in the NFL.

Good point. It was a toothless show cause. It was so short that even if he failed instantly in the NFL he could have jumped right back into the NCAA.

IMO the NCAA won't touch him again unless he becomes completely reckless in the college game. He's a "name" coach who puts up big offensive numbers and has teams that are exciting to watch.

Tomlin would still visit then? :)

Wonder if Currie met with Gruden and was like, "who would you hire? What can you tell me what the NFL folks think about Chip Kelly, and what do you think about Scott Frost?"

If Gruden was a legit coaching option, no way his agent is like "show up and act like you want the job."

Agreed. NCAA thinks UNC and Bama makes them money, wait until a UT football team starts rolling. We could make them so much money, especially a Chip vs Saban rivalry. Man that would be epic.

I was not all that excited when Currie was hired but I've seen nothing to this point that says he's not doing a great job. This hire will define his legacy. People seem to be frustrated because he's not fired Butch yet. I've yet to see a good reason to pull the trigger (publicly) at this point.

If he's somehow able to pull all the parties together, boosters, board, administration, and make a grand slam hire, he'll be a super hero in my eyes. I think it will be an almost impossible task. I'm pulling for him.

Gruden, Kelly, Frost, Patterson. I want them to go after them in that order. I think we can land one of the four.

Hopefully that is Currie's list.

Start with Gruden and Kelly. Make them threaten to get a restraining order after pitching them the job enough times.

If they say no, work the back channels with Frost and Patterson. GP will likely use us to get a raise. Offer Frost the keys to the kingdom and show him the talent level in Tennessee in 2019 and 2020 compared to the wasteland that is Nebraska. Done.

You don't have to sell Scott Frost to me. I'm simply saying that they'll be many that will either walk away or at least scale back their support for the UT AD if They hire a coach that's not a recognizable, established P5 head coach. People are starting to feel they are being taken advantage of.

Not implying anything. Simply giving information that might sway a few people (with any football knowledge).

I don't think you understand me, Currie is the puppet of an administration that I have grown to loathe. He can only do what they let him do when it comes to this hire. I don't really have any animosity towards him, just the people who chose him. Maybe his ability will allow him to be successful and do great things despite the albatross of the loser UT administration. That would be awesome to me.
